Powerball tickets win $2 million, $50,000 prizes

Someone who bought a Powerball ticket in Fayetteville won $2 million, the largest of any prize won across the country Wednesday night.

The ticket, sold at the Circle K on McArthur Road, matched all five white balls drawn. The winning numbers were 5-21-57-66-69 and 13 for the Powerball.

It wasn’t the only big-winning ticket sold in our state. A $50,000-winning ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball. It was sold in Wake County at the Eagles on GB Alford Highway in Holly Springs.

Across North Carolina, 48,673 tickets won prizes. By adding the $1 Power Play feature, players can multiply their winnings. Matching all five white balls on a $2 ticket wins $1 million. A $3 Power Play ticket wins $2 million.

Because there was no “perfect ticket” Wednesday, the jackpot for Saturday’s drawing has grown to a $435 million annuity, worth $273.1 million cash.

We've had four Powerball jackpot winners of $74.5 million to $188 million. We'll be watching with everyone to see what happens Saturday night.

What i dont get is the powerball grand prize never hits in NCNC Lottery
Since the Powerball started in North Carolina, we've had four jackpot winners. The most recent, Marie Holmes of Shallotte in Brunswick County won in 2015.

Normally, winners are notified within 48 hours of the results of the drawing. So hopefully they will all get notices by end of day today.

I used to live in an apartment complex off McArthur Road for 5 years!!!! I bought many a lottery ticket at the gas station on the corner of Rosehill and McArthur or the corner of McArthur and Honeycutt. Dammit! The winning ticket was sold at one of the 2 Circle Ks that I used to live in between!

On big prizes, the lottery withholds 25 percent of the prize amount as federal tax withholdings and 5.499 percent as state withholdings. You get a W-2 showing the taxes withheld along with your prize.

How did someone win 2 million if the powerplay was x3?NC Lottery
Matching 5/5 white balls on a $3 Power Play ticket is always worth $2 million regardless of the multiplier. All other non-jackpot prizes are increased by the multiplier amount. In the Wednesday nights drawing, I purchased my power ball tickets through the online subscription.(which I love) It was apparently a few minutes after the cutoff time to purchase for that nights drawing and I didn't realize until the next day when I thought I had winning numbers that the purchase went in for the next drawing on Saturday. Please beware everyone, the system takes your entry and doesn't give any warning or red flag that its not for the entry you may think you are playing. It could have been a catastrophe if I had won more money. Don't want this to happen to anyone else. NC Lottery

When you are on the "SELECT TICKETS" page to choose your numbers, the date for the drawing you are purchasing tickets is printed in large, bright red type on the screen. We do recommend players double-check this before making a purchase to be sure they are getting numbers for the drawing they have in mind.

Damn May & June have been good months for PB players in NC. 8 out of last 10 drawings people have won big bucks!! 11 wins total. 6 for $50k, 1 for $100k,3 for $150k and the big $2million last night. I think we can put that "no one ever wins big in NC" theory to rest!!!NC Lottery
