Powerball, Jeep prizes among week's biggest wins

The biggest news heading into the weekend is the big Powerball jackpot. As of Friday morning, the jackpot annuity was estimated at $435 million ($273.1 million cash). It is already the 8th largest jackpot in the game's history. Depending on what happens Saturday night we could soon be talking about a half billion dollar jackpot. Stay tuned for more updates.

Speaking of Powerball, two big winners in Wednesday's drawing have already claimed their prize money. Danny Averitt of Fayetteville Power Played his way to $2 million and Pamela Lauziere of Holly Springs won $50,000.

We already have a top prize winner in the new Jeep scratch-off game. With Butner resident Aaron Bullock's $200,000 claim, three top prizes are still in the game. Every ticket can be entered for a second chance to win one of three Jeep Brand vehicles. A total of seven winners will get to drive home either a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, or a Jeep Renegade Trailhawk.

Big Winners

Abel Abreha of Charlotte says a lucky feeling helped him win $1 million. Abreha stopped at the Neighbors Mart on Lasalle Street in Charlotte and bought a $10 Carolina Millions scratch-off. He couldn’t believe it when he realized he won the game’s top prize. Four $1 million top prizes remain.

A Cary man was on his way to check on a replacement part for his car when he decided to pick up a $400,000 Bonus Cash ticket. Jesus Alvares bought the ticket at the Han-Dee Hugon Gregson Drive in his hometown, scratched it off, and stared at the ticket. “I was in complete disbelief,” he said. One top prize is still out there.

Thanks to lucky birthday numbers, James Johnson of Rocky Mount will start his 69th year with a $109,619 Cash 5 jackpot. “I’ve been using the same numbers for three years,” Johnson said. “I always use a combination of my birthday, my wife’s birthday, and my grandchildren’s birthdays.” He couldn’t believe it when he found out his win beat the odds of 1 in 749,398. He matched all 5 numbers in the June 6 drawing. “I put my hands up in the air and said, ‘Oh yeah!’” the retired UPS worker said. Johnson says it’s a perfect way to celebrate turning another year older.
“It’s a great birthday present to myself,” Johnson said.

- Temekia Furlow of Matthews (Jumbo Bucks)

- Lawrence Strader of Spindale (Jeep)
- Kaitlyn Sturgill of Gastonia (Double Match)
- Marisol Zamora of Mebane (Double Match)

Seventeen prizes of $5,000 were awarded. The winners were from Asheville, Ayden, Charlotte, Cherryville, Clemmons, Concord, Conway, Hillsborough, Lumberton, Mars Hill, Morganton, Pleasant Garden, Raleigh, Rocky Point, Snow Hill, Summerfield, and Wake Forest.

Although sales last year for games available through subscription were less than 1% of total sales of those games, we have had a $5,000 Lucky for Life winner, a $15,000 Mega Millions winner, a $20,000 Powerball winner, and a $149,970 Cash 5 jackpot winner. The number of points awarded on each ticket will vary. An eligible ticket will earn at least the same number of points as the price of the ticket. For example, a $5 scratch-off ticket or a $5 Carolina Cash 5 wager on one ticket will earn at least 5 points. However, sometimes tickets may earn MORE points as a bonus. After submitting the entry numbers from each ticket, the number of points you have been awarded will appear on the page.

MYTURNTOWIN: To answer your question, the Extreme Millions entries DO in fact go into the second chance drawing without showing the same picture as the other games such as Ultimate Millions or X The Cash. And if you want to see how many entries you have in it, just click on the "winners" tab at the bottom of the page then scroll down to the Extreme Millions, and it will show how many entries you have entered for the current drawing. Since this is the only place I can find to post two, I want to use the opportunity to let someone new that the extreme Millions $20 ticket does not seem to be granting the second chance entry. This isn't the first time it's happened to me. I've scanned the ticket and it did not notify me that I was in turn into the second chance with the appropriate picture the same way as the ultimate Millions and other second chance games would normally indicate. Also is there a way to see the accumulated entries a player has received in these Second Chance games? When I enter a specific game (such as a weekly $500 draw) using my points I am able to go back and see the entries that I have submitted throughout the game period. With the second chance entries I have no idea the tally or whether it's even being calculatedNC Lottery

I think there is a bit of confusion. You can enter and win a lucke rewards drawing as many times as you want. But 2nd chance drawings are different. You can only win 1 cruise. Xthe cash you can only win the grand prize once. And Jeep® Brand Vehicle winners are not eligible to win another Jeep® Brand Vehicle during this Second-Chance Drawing Promotion.

Two questions, both regarding Second Chance entries: 1)Your website states in the rules that a player can win only once. But in a question previously asked and answered, you state that you can win more than once. So which is right? 2) If I happened to be lucky enough to win a prize in the Second Chance drawings, what efforts would be made to tell me? What if I overlooked an e-mail? If a drawing has more than one winner, then an individual player may only win once. But a winner in one drawing can enter a second drawing, and win there. We thought that was what the player was asking. Sorry for the confusion. On notification, winners first get an email, then a phone call, and finally a certified letter.

From research I read that most lottery sales are from the impoverished counties of NC including mine ,so according to the facts we the rural and impoverished areas spend more money but get left out of any big winnings and are making these other big city urban areas rich SMDH I believe the ppl in these left out counties will stop spending there hard earn money for Zero profit ,I got this info from goggle as well as other facts but who am I to prove dishonesty?!

Hey,Scope1987. Because more people play in multi-state games, the prizes are bigger. Every ticket no matter where it is purchased has the same chance to win a jackpot. So far, we've had four Powerball jackpot wins in North Carolina, two Mega Millions jackpot wins, and two who have won $1,000 A Day For Life in the Lucky for Life game. North Carolina does pay its share of the jackpot prizes won in other states, but the Powerball game helps to raise lots of money here. Just during the latest Powerball jackpot run, tickets sales in North Carolina raised $11.5 million for education.

I would like to see the actual prizes paid out for the Cash 5 EZMatch, nowhere on this site is a list of winning amounts paid out, like the scratch cards have, I have never seen anyone win more than $20 on them although the ants, are $250 and $500. Congrats to all the winners. I see some people getting $10, $20, or more worth of tickets for each game. I only play one ticket per game. MM,LfL and PB times 2 draws each week, $10.00 per week total with an occasional cash 5 when the pot get big. I used to get multiple tickets but then realized that when my turn to win comes I will only need one ticket. I play for fun, and when I win great but when I don't win I have not lost but $10.00. I have to agree with the person that posted on 6/10/17 at 10:19.. You are so right. I noticed the winners are concentrated to specific areas here in NC. Random ? I think not. I'm starting to think this is rigged. As much as I'd like to even win a second chance drawing, I'd be excited if for 1st time since inception of this if someone in my town won a second chance drawing. Too many repeat wins in certain areas. (just look back and you'll see what I mean) Maybe reboot your machine!

Honestly, only one of them needs to be a lucky pick anyway. Second, as for the entries, all you have to do is ask and the fine folks at LZ will provide you with how many entries are in whatever drawing you are interested in. They are good like that! I have quit on the scratch offs but I play cash 5 and powerball, but only when it gets so high. My husband on the other hand is still buying those losing scratcher's. He bought $50 of the big 7 in middle of $5 ticket and wow he actually won $10 out of $50 back. Now I do not know about you but I feel that 90% of what he spent goes back to the lottery. I wonder who is getting this money in their pockets well it is the lottery commissioners of course. PEOPLE QUIT spending your money on this rigged crap. You will end up on the streets. Much of the money spent on lottery tickets goes to pay the prizes that people win. Last year, 62.5 percent went to prizes and 26 percent to the state to support education programs. Retailers who sell lottery tickets get 7 percent. The rest goes to run the lottery. The lottery recommends that folks play for fun and with money set aside for entertainment purposes.

Sorry we misunderstood your question. Some folks do share the number of entries they put into drawing. But the lottery doesn't. It's not part of the public information about lottery winners. Understand the curiosity, but we will lead that up to the winners who participate in the Lucke-Zone and Lucke-Rewards drawings to share if they want to.

Good question. Think of the Lucke-Rewards drawings as raffles. When you decide to enter, you get your entry unique to you. If your entry is picked, you're one of the winners. Odds depend on how many entries are placed into a drawing. Good luck next time you try.

Tried posting this comment yesterday and it never got posted..hmm. I had over 1000 entries in one of the second chance drawings and no win. Is it possible the reason you guys don't show the winners number of entries is because it is so astronomical that it's not worth it to enter unless you are addicted. also starting to wonder if you only win based on zipcode. Is it possible we can't see the winners number of entries...is it possible that the reason the winners number of entries are not shown because the number needed to win is so astronomical that nc lottery does not want people to see and think they don't have a chance. The lottery does want players to know what the odds are. It encourages people to make good decisions when deciding if they want to spend their money to take a chance on winning a prize. The odds of winning a big prize are long. As for the second-chance drawings, the odds are based on number of entries received. The lottery shares those odds.
