With $1,000 win, Rockingham mom taking son school shopping

For many families with kids in grades K-12, it's back to school season. Thanks to a lucky 50X The Cash ticket, Theresa Owens of Rockingham will be sending her son back to the classroom with some new gear.

Owens, who is self-employed, bought the $1,000-winning ticket at the P&C Food Mart on U.S. 1 South in Rockingham. When she claimed her prize money at our Greensboro claims center, Owens said she was excited and happy to win and plans to use her winnings to treat her son. There are still three top prizes of $1 million in the 50X The Cash game.

The website will be updated when the second winner completes the claim process. A winner's name can only be announced once that has happened. Hey lucky zone. Gota ? for you, i had a cleark that didnt want to give back my ticket after cashn it. after that another said it wuz against the law to give them back. I put them in second chance draws. And if is against the law who looks after those cashed at the new machines? I had never heard of this law. Thanks keep up the good work.NC Lottery
For instant tickets, it is lottery policy to instruct retailers to keep cashed tickets. If you want your rewards or second-chance entries, it is important to enter it first before cashing it in to get prize money.

Hey scorpionking , my sister lives in Palm Harbor, near Clearwater. Last your we drove down the entire east coast of FL. to the keys. Then on our return trip drove up the gulf side back to NC. Thanks to a few small wins from NCEL , we will fly down & back this year. I gotta remember to buy my multi draw tickets in advance of the trip.

Hey Turbo, I see you love the FL Keys for vacation. Have not been out there since 2012. Spend my vacation time in St. Petersburg. Its' pretty humid after mid-day. Most of the folks were out early fishing. I had the grand kids with me and it was all about the young ones having all the fun & games at the local attractions. Enjoy your trip and watch out for JAWS. Waiting on my 146 and 617 in P3. Will also settle for the second prize in this Saturday Powerball drawing. Good Luck.

Everything with EZ Match is fine. The odds of winning $20 are 1 in 1,120 and the odds of winning $500 on a $1 ticket are 1 in 84,000. If you compare those odds to winning the same prize on a $1 scratch-off ticket - which could be 1 in 240,000 or 1 in 768,000 the odds of winning $500 playing EZ Match are excellent. There are lots of ways to build a lottery game with odds and prizes. All the prize money comes from tickets that don't win prizes. After that it's just a matter of how much prize money is at what level and what do the odds have to be to make everything fit together to make a fun game that results in folks winning nice prizes, and helps the lottery raise money for education :-)

Yes. Winners of Lucke-Rewards drawings are first notified with an email to the email address they provide when they register.

I put so many second chance entries in both by buying the second chance tickets and scanning them and also by redeeming points. I had over 250 on the current X the cash second chance drawing (among others) and haven't ever won. Discouraging and frustrating. NC Lottery

I was out of the country a few times this summer, I tried to access LZ. I am assuming you can't access LZ or enter drawings in a foreign location?NC Lottery
Not sure what was going on with your access to the site. As long as you buy your tickets in North Carolina, you can use your points to enter drawings no matter where you are as far as the lottery is concerned. Your access might have been restricted by the internet service provider you were using while out of the country, but that's just a possibility. In order to make subscription purchases, you do have to be physically within the state of North Carolina in order to do that.

Generally, claims center staff take photos of winners of $10,000 plus when winners are willing to have them taken. Our claims center staff also tries to take other photos when winners request them, but sometimes the demands of the day can get in the way. We love winner photos and wished we could have added your photo to our collection. Perhaps the next time. If you will give us the chance.

Yes, winners are chosen at random. There are more than 800,000 players club members. There were 253,226 entries made in last week's $500 Quick Cash drawing. And there are so far more than 443,447 entries in this month's Summer Sweeps drawing. The more entries you make, the more chances you have to win. But even one entry gives you a shot. Good luck.

According to North Carolina state law - not lottery policy - there are four pieces of information about lottery wins that must be made public: A winner's name, home town, game played, and amount won. The law was created in the interest of government transparency to provide the public with knowledge of who wins prize money. The lottery does not require winners to have their pictures taken or to talk with the media.
