Hey, we all know if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. You receive an email claiming you have won $1 million in an online drawing called the “Legacy Prize.” All you have to do is send your personal information to an overseas claims office. Don’t act too fast, this is an example of a lottery scam.
We know some of our players across the state have been receiving scam emails. Thank you for calling in and letting us know. We are all in this together. Playing the lottery is about having fun and we want to keep it that way.
These scams can easily be avoided if you follow our tips that will help determine if an email is from us, the North Carolina Education Lottery:
- You will not get an email notifying you won a prize, unless you are part of our players club. The lottery does not know who winners are until they claim their prize.
- The lottery will never ask for personal information over email. We respect our players. If you do receive a prize notification email from our Lucke-Rewards or subscription program, it will ask you to verify contact information that is already on file.
- The lottery does not have an overseas claim office. There are six claim centers located across the state. Here is more information about our claim centers: http://www.nc-educationlottery.org/info_how-to-claim.aspx
- You can only buy draw tickets online or take part in our online drawings, if you are a member of our players club. If you aren’t a member and get an email saying you won, there’s a good chance it’s not authentic. If you are a member, you can check the list of current drawings listed on Lucke-Zone.com.
