North Carolinians who have tickets for Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing will be playing for the game’s largest jackpot ever, $667 million.
Mega Millions announced the new jackpot right before noon. The jackpot, which has been rolling each drawing since July 27, is now the third largest in U.S. history.
The previous record jackpot in Mega Millions was a $656 million prize. Winners from Kansas, Illinois and Maryland shared the jackpot in March 2012.
If there is no jackpot winner in tonight’s Mega Millions drawing, the estimated annuity value for Friday’s drawing will roll to $868 million, with an estimated cash value of $495 million.
In Saturday’s drawing, 48,759 tickets sold in North Carolina won a prize. And from July 27 through Oct. 12, Mega Millions sales in North Carolina earned an estimated $8.4 million for education.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot for Wednesday’ drawing has rolled to an estimated annuity of $345 million. The estimated cash value is $199 million.
Together, the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpot add up to $1.012 billion.
Good luck, North Carolina.
