All of the excitement surrounding the Mega Millions jackpot has led to increased sales and a larger jackpot for tonight’s drawing, $1 billion or $565.6 million in cash.
The jackpot stands as the largest ever available to be won in the Mega Millions game, and the second largest in U.S. history. If no one wins the jackpot tonight, it is projected to jump to $1.6 billion on Tuesday, setting a new overall record for jackpots in the United States.
Mega Millions announced the new jackpot today. The jackpot has been rolling each drawing since July 27, when it started at $40 million.
The previous record jackpot in Mega Millions was a $656 million prize. Winners from Kansas, Illinois and Maryland shared the jackpot in March 2012.
Players have until 10:45 p.m. to buy a ticket for the drawing, which is scheduled at 11 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot for Saturday’s drawing has increased too. It now stands at $470 million or $268.8 million cash. The Powerball jackpot is the 8th largest in the game.
Together, the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpot add up to $1.4 billion.
Good luck, North Carolina.
