Two NC tickets win $1 million in Mega Millions drawing

Congratulations to all the North Carolina Mega Millions players who won big in Tuesday’s record Mega Millions drawing. Nine tickets won $10,000. Two won $30,000. And two lucky tickets won $1 million.

The $1 million tickets matched all five white balls in the drawing. One was sold at the Circle K on Harrison Avenue in Cary and the other at the Zoom Express on Skyway Drive in Monroe. We look forward to meeting those two big winners.

Estimates are that Mega Millions ticket sales in North Carolina during the 26 drawings raised $24.5 million for education this year. The money will help the lottery meet its goal of raising more than $667 million this year for its good cause.

A single ticket sold in South Carolina claimed the $1.537 billion jackpot, the largest jackpot ever won by a single ticket. The winner can claim the prize as an annuity or take a lump sum cash prize of $877.8 million cash. The $1.58 billion Powerball jackpot in January 2016 remains the largest jackpot ever.

Tuesday night’s winners have 180 days to claim their prize. In all, 407,312 tickets won prizes in North Carolina, ranging from $2 to $1 million and totaling $4.1 million.

Two tickets matched four white balls and the Mega Ball, winning a base prize of $10,000. Because the buyers of those tickets added the $1 Megaplier feature, the prize for each of those tickets tripled to $30,000 when a 3X multiplier was picked in the drawing. Those lucky tickets were sold at the Food Mart (Dev Mart) on East Mountain Street in Kernersville and at a Food Lion on Gilead Road in Huntersville.

Nine other $2 tickets matched four white balls and the Mega Ball, winning $10,000. Those lucky tickets were sold at:

Petro Mart, Wayside Road, Raeford.
Benson Food Mart, East Main Street, Benson.
Scotchman, N.C. 172, Hubert.
Sheetz, Yadkinville Road, Mocksville.
Speedway, N.C. 66 South, Kernersville.
Sunrise Food & Gas, West 3rd Street, Siler City.
Lowe’s Foods, 29th Avenue Northeast, Hickory.
Pit Stop, South Main Street, Winston-Salem.
Huntersville BP, South Statesville Road, Huntersville.

Well, it used to be that simple. I have "successfully" rest my pin for online play 14 times, which by the way includes 2 times today and 3 times yesterday after you were kind so kind and sent me that useless link in your last reply. Yep, got 14 messages sitting on my inbox from NCEL sayin that my pin was changed yet EVERYTIME I try to fund my online account, I get the SAME EXACT error message (in red bold print) saying my account has been locked due to UNSUCCESSFUL pin attempts. Don't you just love the simple things in life. Well I sure used to when I could enjoy the simplicity of making online purchases from the comfort of my home..... real help again please...NC Lottery

Hey DG, you're right. The Rewards page was never completely fixed to accurately show active or expired entries as I pointed out over and over - I gave up pointing out the issues. I find it quite odd that the Rewards tab just disappeared, given that any competent IT organization always tests new/modified code on developmental servers, including regression testing, before putting it on production servers. It could be anything, not necessarily the drawings page code. It could be a style sheet issue, a scripting engine issue or an update to any of the software or operating system that doesn't support the current code. Or the intern playing around with the code. It's laughable that a business that has over a billion dollars in sales annually can't employ competent IT personnel. Geek Squad would have fixed this by now.

Hi Anita, Blog moderators don't have the ability to access your pin, but resetting your pin is easy! On the page where you're being prompted to input your pin, there should be a section directly underneath that says "Forgot your PIN? Click here for PIN reset assistance." Click that, then, just follow the instructions and a link will be sent to your email to reset your pin.

Well, NCEL clearly missed it AGAIN so I'll rephrase it another way: self exclusion from making purchases doesn't in any way fix the issue, duh it's only a means to an end that doesn't even come close to being a resolution for the real problem, the error messages, remember that??? Your "suggestion" only partially addressing my concerns, but is appreciated somewhat. And if you recall, I said I wanted it deactivated IF the issue couldn't be fixed; its almost like you're "splitting the baby" giving me an answer that more of a comprise rather than a solution. For the record, I LOVED the app until September 28th. (just frustrated not trying to be harsh)NC Lottery

Hey Mike, I noticed that too. I think the geek squad must be working on it but not getting it right yet. What it is showing is the five 2nd chance drawings we are in plus the number of entries in the lucke-rewards drawings. Every time you entry a drawing and use your points the # will increase. Go ahead try it. LZ, The drawings tab still only says Second chance.

Online play is a joke! I have been having problems "resetting" my password for about a month! I've emailed,called, received calls, reinstalled the app and the problem STILL exist! This error thing is probably an intentionally tatic by Lottery System to prevent online sales since the jackpots were so high!! I've asked them to PERMANENTLY delete my account if the issue could not be resolved but its useless, that was ignored too! the sole reason I play online is for convenience, so why would you have an app that you KNOW has issues and work properly and yiu refuse to fix it!!! ??NC Lottery

Hi Lisa! That means your $10 or more Mega Millions or Powerball ticket is qualified to be entered into the "Mega Power Pack" second chance drawing! That is a weekly drawing for this month where 100 players will be drawn to receive a pack of 60 Mega Millions/Powerball scratch-off tickets! To be entered, all you have to do is log into your account and scan your ticket to receive Lucke-Rewards points. by doing that you will be automatically entered into the drawing for the scratch-offs. We've had a few $10,000, $30,000 and $50,000 winners from Mega Millions and Powerball that were purchased online, some big Lucky for Life wins, and even a few Cash 5 jackpot wins!

I have issue with online pay also. Called the support line multiple times and called my phone carrier . Sent email to NC lottery. Issue still not resolved. All mine days can't find my Geo location. It's been 3 weeks. Still not resolved. There's no one I know that has a land line for internet to try on land line. So guess I'm just stuck .I've ask for refund or just finish the purchase for me. Hi Gustavo, You can find the winner's names on the "Draws" page. Make sure to deselect "My Entries" and then choose "All" from the drop-down menu. Winner's information will be posted on that page as they claim their prizes. Hope this helps!

Hi Shirley, The Creepy Cash Lucke-Rewards drawing is open until the 31st and the drawing will take place on November 7th, so a winner has not been chosen yet. Once that drawing has taken place, the winner will be notified via email, but their name will not be posted on the website until they have completed the claim process. When that happens, you will be able to see the winner on o the "Draws" page. Thanks!

I keep having issues with my online play. I emailed, I called, I received calls a couple of times but the issue still remains. I requested to get my money refunded & put back into my bank acct since it has been sitting unused for months now with no problem resolution in the works. If there is a gliche in the system, then the customer should not have to wait. Here is the message: "An account associated with the information entered is already active. Please re-check your info and try upgrading again. If this issue persists or you believe the account is yours please call the help line 1-877-962-7529." I have done all steps requested. So what is the resolution? Do I go in person to the lottery office in Charlotte? Thank you for advising resolution to an old problem. I doubt I will pay online ever again & just go to a store.NC Lottery

Oh sure, you win $1.537 billion instead of $1.6 billion and your gonna file a frivolous law suit. Time for a reality check. People got hit by the lottery frenzy bug and DID NOT spend more just because of the slightly higher jackpot estimate. ALL jackpots are estimates, always have been. PB, MM, and cash5. Only one that is set is LFL.

Hey Marlene, To collect Lucke-Rewards points on your tickets, all you have to do is scan or enter the barcode by selecting the "Collect" icon. Those points can be used to enter a variety of Lucke-Rewards drawings (https://www.nclottery.com/Promotions). And yes, if a player wins a prize in one of our Lucke-Rewards drawings, they will be notified first via the email listed on their account. Good luck!

Why was the jackpot advertised as 1.6 billion when the winning ticket was 1.5 billion? Congratulations to that lucky person but think they should go for a false advertisement law suit. Same goes for all that bought tickets on the rigged lottery. Falsely advertising of jackpots causes people to spend more money that they normally wouldn't. Not right all!!!NC Lottery
Hey David, It's important to remember that the $1.6 billion advertised jackpot is an estimated annualized jackpot. Jackpot prizes are estimated based off of ticket sales and can fluctuate slightly depending on actual sales in all of the states where Mega Millions is played.
