Snack craving leads Charlotte concrete worker to $200,000 lottery prize

Francisco Garcia of Charlotte said a craving for a snack led him to a $200,000 lottery prize.

Garcia, a concrete worker, stopped at the Circle K on Providence Road in Charlotte Monday night to get something to eat. While he was there, he bought a $5 Mega Millions/Powerball scratch-off ticket. He scratched the ticket in the store.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Garcia said. “I was so shocked. I started shaking and sweating. It was exciting.”

He claimed the prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,003. He plans to use the money to buy a house.

“It’s been a dream of mine to own a home,” Garcia said.

The Mega Millions/Powerball scratch-off game launched in October with four top prizes of $200,000. Two top prizes remain.

I agree NC S. They always come up with this same excuse just keep it real with the lottery players y'all send more winning tickets to Charlotte bottom line go to Charlotte if you want to hit it big

The Lottery's same excuse behind Charlotte winning a majority of all large prizes is population saying they sell more tickets there. If you add all the other populations together we buy far greater tickets than Charlotte so a majority of winners should be outside of Charlotte. But Charlotte continues to have the big money tickets sold there somehow in this so called random system-BS. There logic is the same as California thinking they should make the rules for the rest of America because they have the largest population. If the lottery's logic is true then Charlotte,Raleigh and Greensboro should be the only place you should play. But looking at the statistics Greensboro doesn't have no where near the large winners like Charlotte even though it's the third largest city. No commissioners reside there. NC Lottery

yeap i agree gregory all the winners are from Charlotte the customer service from lottery headquaters was right when she told me the reason for the winners are always from Charlotte

Another big scratch ticket in Charlotte nc there have been a lot of big money in this city. I need to move no big winners where I live. NC Lottery
It's important to remember that it's not easier to win the lottery in any specific location. There are just more people taking a chance to win in Charlotte. We can assure you that if you moved to the city it does not become easier to win a lottery prize there, it has to be that way in order for the lottery to be fair for everyone who chooses to play.
