Eight won $1 million or more in October

Matchers and scratchers claimed 21 big wins of $100,000 or more in October, including seven $1 million prizes and one $2 million prize.

Here’s a quick recap of the month’s big wins:

Powerball produced the biggest win of the month, a $2 million prize. Three other Power Play tickets holders picked up their checks for $150,000 wins.
Two $1 million Mega Millions wins were claimed from folks trying their luck at winning the second largest jackpot in U.S. history.
Six Cash 5 jackpots were claimed, ranging from $126,670 to $482,890.
Scratch-offs produced nine big wins instantly, including five $1 million prizes.The $1 million prizes came from the Holiday Millionaire, $150 Million Cash Explosion, 100X the Cash, $10 million Colossal Cash, and the Hit $5,000 games.

We get to meet all winners of $100,000 or more at lottery headquarters. One of the best part of our time with big winners is hearing their dreams for how they plan to use their prize money. Some let us share those dreams with you.

what happened about the lucky/rewards draw. the one where you win a pack of power ball scrach off tickets ? the winner was suppost to have been drawn on nov 7th. i cant find anything about it NC Lottery
When winners claim their prize, they will shown on the winners page in your app or desktop. To find it, go to "Draws" and unselect your entries and you can see winners.

Worst Pick 3 and Pick 4 numbers Ive ever seen that are being drawn. I played Virginia for years before NC got the lottery and used to hit all the time. They drew more commonly played numbers. NC is atrocious. Cant ever get them right. If players cant win, you gonna see them stop playing. Its simple math. NC Lottery
Hey Michael, The lottery does not control which numbers are drawn, whether based off popularity or any other reason. That just wouldn't be fair to our players. There are extensive security measures in place to protect the integrity of every drawing. Daily drawings are always conducted under the supervision of an independent auditor who verifies the results. Is their any chance that N.C. will pass the law that winners have the choice to go public or staying private ???NC Lottery
Great question, Barry. Most state lotteries do not allow winners to claim anonymously. Knowing that real people win lottery prizes is important to public confidence that the lottery is fair to everyone who plays. Also, the lottery does not have the power to make or change the law, we simply operate according to it.

Hey Leslie! After a drawing takes place, winners are notified within 48 hours via email. Before a winner's name can be posted on the website, he or she has to first respond to the notification and then complete the claim process, either by mail or in person at one of our claim centers.

I'm new to Lucke Rewards and Second Chance. I love it but I never know if I'm submitting enough draws. It would be nice to see how many draws total have been submitted at any given time. It would make the difference between my choice to submit 50 or 500NC Lottery
Thanks for the feedback, Jarreau! At this time, our website does not have the capability to show real-time entries for Lucke-Rewards and Second Chance drawings. This function has been suggested before and is on the list for possible future improvements to the website. For now, blog moderators are always happy to find out how many entries a given drawing has, all you have to do is ask!

Good deal NCEL. Congrats to all the lucky players. October was a good month for big wins. Actually not too far off from being an average month for wins. I think people are too busy complaining about not winning , or having the "no one ever wins syndrome". People fail to realize people do win big bucks all the time. GO PANTHERS !!!!

Please make it so you will know when your ticket is a winner when you play and scan your scratch offs at home for drawings. I don't want to play and scan my ticket in the store. I enjoy them at home. Some of these games are so busy, a person could miss a winner and not know it when they scan them into drawings.NC Lottery

So all in all. Once in a lifetime is a huge stretch. It is more like Once in 28096.2825 lifetimes to win the powerball. And this is if everyone lived to be 100 and the combinations of numbers didn't repeat. I'm not trying to deter you from playing. I still play even though I know that it may never happen. I prefer scratchoffs as you have a lot higher chances to break even so then you can stop there or have another chance to try. Just be responsible. Set a budget. If you can't afford your bills or food, then maybe you should step away from the lottery until you can afford to play it. Even if it is only a dollar that you are spending. If you won't be able to eat by buying that ticket, please rethink your decision. That dollar could easy buy a fairly large can of baked beans that you could make last for a few days if only one person was eating it. I love hearing jackpot winners stories and how it changed their life. But please don't let playing the lottery take over your life.

There are two drawings per week for 52 weeks out of the year. This means that only 104 out of the 292,201,338 combinations will be hit each year. Now if these combinations were only given the opportunity to be drawn once and they were eliminated from ever being drawn again that it would take 2,809,628.25 years before every single combination has been drawn. And I will repeat once more that this is only if the combinations could only be drawn once. In reality, it would take much longer to actually hit every number. Buying two tickets vs one will double the percentage that you hit a winning combination, but not enough to really make a difference. Buying just one ticket will put you at 0.00000034222978%. If you buy more tickets just multiply that number how many different combinations of numbers that you have. Let's say you bought 500,000 tickets for the next draw. 0.17111489%. You just spent 1 million dollars for less than a 1 percent chance to hit the powerball.

I have seen a lot of people complaining on here about how the lottery never lands in their favor and then they blame others for the outcome. Whether it be that they believe it is rigged or that someone else bought the quick pick that took the numbers that they should've had. That just isn't reasonable and it's no reason to blame the winner. Congratulate the winner and try again. The odds of winning are not "once in a lifetime." If it were, there would be a lot more large winners. I am going to break down the odds of the powerball and I will even try to make it look more likely that you would win. Let's say for statistical purposes that no winning number of combinations may ever be hit twice. This would be great if it worked this way, but it doesn't. The powerball has odds of 1:292,201,338 to hit the jackpot. That means that there are 292,201,338 different combinations of the five numbers + the powerball number.
