Wilmington players win ‘Dazzling’ $4 million lottery prize

Jack and Louise Jones of Wilmington are the first players to win $4 million playing the $4,000,000 Diamond Dazzler scratch-off ticket.

They bought the $20 ticket at Lowes Foods on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington.

They claimed their prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. They had the choice of taking a $4 million annuity that has 20 payments of $200,000 a year or a lump sum of $2.4 million. They chose the lump sum. After required state and federal tax withholdings, they took home $1.69 million.

$4,000,000 Diamond Dazzler launched in September with three top prizes of $4 million and six $1 million prizes. Two $4 million and four $1 million prizes remain.

Ticket sales from games like $4,000,000 Diamond Dazzler make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for education.

Hi Jerry- You can see who wins second-chance drawings by going to your "User Dashboard" and clicking on the "Draws" icon. Go to the "Second-Chance" section of the page. Once you're there, make sure you un-check the box that says "My Entries" and make sure the drop-down menu says "All". Winners names are posted as soon as they claim their prize.

Melissa- When players win a prize of $1 million or more on a scratch-off they can claim their prize in an annuity over 20 years, or a lump sum.

Real winner? Serious? The IRS always gets their share, that's no secret! This couple had their choice of the $4mil over 20 years, but chose to take $2.4mil as a lump sum & ended up with $1.69mil. So I would say the REAl winners here are JJ & LJ. I'm sure THEY are very happy with THEIR decision.
