Let’s talk about problem gambling

The lottery’s job is to offer fun games to raise money for education in North Carolina and, at the same time, work to protect the interests of those who choose to play our games.

With that goal in mind, each March, we partner with the National Council on Problem Gambling and the N.C. Problem Gambling Program to raise awareness of resources to support someone who might show signs of problem gambling, whether it is caused by playing the lottery or any other type of gambling.

So let’s talk about that a bit. If you enjoy playing the lottery, what are the warning signs that you’re playing too much?

  • “Chasing” losses in an attempt to break even
  • Going without basic needs in order to buy lottery tickets
  • A preoccupation with lottery games
  • A need for more money to play lottery games more frequently
  • Restlessness or irritability when you try to stop playing.

We want to make sure you know that help is available in North Carolina. Anyone can reach out to licensed professionals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • Call: (877) 718-5543, a toll-free helpline
  • Text: morethanagamenc to 53342
  • Online Chat:  www.morethanagamenc.com

Most of our players enjoy lottery games without issue. But if there comes a time when playing the lottery doesn’t feel like fun, that’s a sign that it may be time to take a break.

Should reduce daily entries from 75 back to 30. To many people have connections where have access to acquire a lot of tickets daily and can enter 75 EVERYDAY where the average person is lucky to enter a couple a week. Odds sucks when that happens and look at the repeated winners from past weekly and monthly drawings. MAKE IT FAIR!!!!!NC Lottery
Hi Bill, Thanks for sharing your concerns. We understand where you are coming from, currently we don't have plans to make any changes to the program.

I dont think it would be a problem if people actually one something,i don't even mean win maybe break even.I play everyday and spend 40 to 50 and never even break even. The most I've ever won was 100 9 times out of 10 i dont win angthing or even break even.

Yep, that sounds like the majority of your players. You know, entering the useless codes for six years with the false hope of a second chance prize. You people at NCEL love to make gambling addicts out of people. That's why there are some many gimmicks month after month. Thanks anyways for the required "disclosure". Sincerely, Fed Up Player
