David Sang of New Bern is the first $1 million winner in the 100X The Cash scratch-off game.

Sang bought the $20 ticket at the New Bern Oriental Market on Red Robin Lane in New Bern.

Sang claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He had the choice of taking an annuity that has 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $423,011.

100X The Cash launched last month with three top prizes of $4 million and six prizes of $1 million. Two top prizes and five $1 million prizes remain.

Ticket sales from instant games like 100X The Cash make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for the state. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.

I believe Georgia has them in smaller convenience stores. looks like my county does not even have one now, the ones that did stopped.

I got to agree with you 87spg. All 3 of the places I play keno at players get their tickets and go home.

From a marketing and sales perspective, the Keno “Stay and Play” strategy is ridiculous. Restaurants make money by seat turnover. No restaurant is going to base their business model on having people occupy seats playing Keno instead of buying their primary product – food. And eliminating thousands of convenience stores from selling Keno because they don’t have a seating area makes no sense at all. People go to a convenience store for…convenience. They go in, get what they want and leave. Retailers are not going to trade merchandizing floor space for seating so they can sell Keno. It’s a draw game, people will buy Keno tickets and check them later just like all other draw games. Get rid of the seating rule and instantly add thousands of Keno outlets. The strategy and implementation teams obviously did not think this through in terms of business sense. It’s like not selling gas to a station because they are on a 2 lane road instead of a 4 lane highway - great business model!!!

To Scott M.. Buy 50 cent tics instead of a buck, when the red ball promo is run, I buy ten 50cent tickets instead of five $1 tickets. Problem solved. Works with combo, exact or 50/50 tickets. That way you never win more then $500 on each ticket should your number come up twice.

As revealed in the Dec 5th, 2017 Commissioners meeting minutes, the commissioners were told as part of the retailers qualification process for selling Keno that "Retailers must have a seated area where food is being served to customers." This is not true in any form or fashion. I know of 3 local retailers that have no food service whatsoever, 1 is a private club (bar), 1 is a public bar and the other is a Bingo establishment. Why would the commissioners be told such a blatant falsehood? NC Lottery
Hey, Mike. Keno is new. At this time the lottery believes it will be most successful in “play and stay” retail locations. When Keno started in October, the lottery allowed some flexibility. Your retail locations may be some of those. The lottery is working now with our Keno retailers to ensure the game is a good fit. Our goal is to continue to recruit Keno retailers so that more North Carolinians have a chance to play this fun and exciting game.

Where was the March 12th Cash 5 winning ticket sold at in Elkin,NC ? Was it a quick pick ticket ? Also a question regarding the double draw in pick 3. If the same number is drawn for the double draw, does that winning number become a $1,000 winner instead of the regular $500? I know it is a very long shot to have the same number drawn but anything is possible. NC Lottery
Yes. It was a Quick Pick ticket at the Elkin Mart on N.C. 268 West in Elkin. If the same Pick 3 number was drawn twice on a Double Draw night, then whoever had a ticket for that number would win $500 twice, adding up to a $1,000 win. Good luck.

So win a million and take home $423,011 and win $750,000 and take home $528,760 am I the only one that sees something wrong with this? NC Lottery
Understand the question, but it is an apple and orange comparison. The first winner won $1 million but chose a lump sum of $600,000 rather than the annuity of $1 million which pays $50,000 a year for 20 years. So tax withholding is on the $600,000. In the second example, the tax withholding is applied to the $750,000 prize.
