Stokes County woman wins ‘dazzling’ $250,000 lottery prize

Carolyn Brown of Walnut Cove will start her weekend on a high note after claiming the last top prize in the $250,000 Diamond Dazzler scratch-off game.  

Brown bought the lucky $5 ticket at the Kangaroo Express on South Main Street in King. She claimed her prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $176,253.

$250,000 Diamond Dazzler launched in September 2017 with five top prizes of $250,000. Brown claimed the last top prize, which means the lottery will begin steps to end the game. 

Ticket sales from instant games like $250,000 Diamond Dazzler make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for education. I think as of today I may have just lost faith in the NCEL. I just bought 3 $30 EXTREME MILLIONS scratchers and didn't win ANYTHING! With the "odds" being 1 in 3 how in the world did I not win at least once? Not even whatever the lowest price was? 3 $30 scratchers on the same roll. Zero on all three. What a lousy way to start off a week. NC Lottery
