Raymond Lupin from Hayesville says a quick decision to play on his way out of town won him a $106,435 Cash 5 jackpot.
Leaving town for a golf trip, Lupin stopped by the Big D on U.S. 64 West in Hayesville to buy a Cash 5 ticket. Not wanting to miss a Cash 5 draw while he was away, he bought a $1 Quick Pick for the next eight consecutive draws.
The first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth draw goes by – no win. But on the seventh draw – he hits the jackpot.
Lupin’s luck struck on the seventh day of his Multidraw purchase. He matched all five balls in the May 5 drawing, winning a $106,435 Cash 5 jackpot.
He was able to win the jackpot even when he was out of town by taking advantage of the Multidraw feature. This feature allows players to enter up to 28 consecutive drawings. Lupin says that if he hadn’t selected Multidraw he, “wouldn’t have won anything.”
Lupin claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, Lupin received a check for $75,038. He said he plans to use some of the money to pay bills.
“It couldn’t have come at a better time,” Lupin said as he claimed his prize. “It really couldn’t have.”
