‘It felt like Santa Claus had come,’ Raleigh man says of $100,000 win

June 11, 2018 Posted by NC Lottery at 3:01 PM
Stanley Williams of Raleigh said he felt like a child on Christmas morning after he won $100,000 playing the 100X The Cash scratch-off game.
“I was like a little boy, so excited,” he recalled. “It felt like Santa Claus had come!”
Williams’ good luck happened Sunday when he stopped by the J&J Mart on New Birch Drive in Raleigh. He normally plays Pick 3, but said he felt like playing something different.
After deciding on the $20 ticket, Williams headed home and started scratching. When he realized he won $100,000, he was stunned.
“It was unbelievable,” Williams said. “I didn’t sleep at all last night I was so excited.”
Williams claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $70,507. He said he plans to use some of his prize money to powerwash and paint his house.
100X The Cash launched in February with three $4 million prizes, six $1 million prizes and six $100,000 prizes. Two $4 million prizes, four $1 million prizes, and three $100,000 prizes remain.

yes, there are many winners in charlotte ral. durham, greensboro, and fayetteville! Do you realize how many retailers there are in these areas and how many tickets are sold! If you look at ticket sales in these areas versus winners it will be proportionate to sales in smaller cities versus winners.Quit complaining- I live in ral. area and have not won YET., but I do not complain.MY WINNING DAY IS SOON AND I WILL LET YOU KNOWNC Lottery
We love that positive attitude, Greg!

I just want all the bloggers to know, I feel the same about Raleigh, Charlotte, Greensboro and Durham and Fayetville having the mist winners. I lived in Raleigh for 8 months and yet to find “the golden egg” i belueve more winners come from Durham and Fayetville and the NCEl are aware of the winning areas.

LZ I think you misinterpreted the question from Joann M. I think she is asking about the messages in the players dashboard. I have 380 messages and would like to delete them but you give us no option to mark as read or delete. How about updating the message board with options to manage your messages?NC Lottery
Thanks for the clarification, Mike! The reason we don't have the option to delete messages in that section is because our goal was to utilize it as a way of record keeping for our players. Messages will archive once you have seen them, so if the volume of messages is bothering you, you can always just filter them by "New" messages only.

SCHMEKA, I wrote your #s down a while back and check them because you say they are ALWAYS 1# off. Why do you say that when we both know that statement is no where near being accurate. Sometimes they are close, sometimes they are no where near. But they are NOT ALWAYS 1# off.

Where was the large winning cash 5 sold on 6/1/18?NC Lottery
Hey Tanya, Yes there was! On June 1st, a Cash 5 ticket worth $542,354 was sold at the Rose Mart on Nash Street in Wilson.

@SCHMEKA W.: We wish every ticket could be a lucky one, but that is just not the case. As you noted, there are simply more tickets being sold in those areas. For example, if an area contained 50% of the state's population, it is safe to say that close to 50% of ticket sales would be there, and on average, 50% of winners. Similarly, if an area contained 5% of the population, about 5% of sales would take place there, and 5% of winners on average. That is why it seems like you don't hear about winners in small towns as often. However, the most important part to note is that no matter where you are in the state, you have exactly the same chance of winning!

Alana, I agree the ncel knows exactly where the winning tickets are distributed. Because I was told by an employee of of the ncel is most winning tickets are sold in Raleigh n Charlotte cause its a big population and they have more people buying tickets. In which I font think is fair. So my luck with the tickets is either have to move to Charlotte or Raleigh. Just like the cash 5 Raleigh has more winners than anybodyNC Lottery
Hey Schmeka, Please see our response as a separate comment above.

"Hi Gregory, Part of the fun is that we do not have any knowledge of where the winning tickets end up." HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sure you don't--and the Pope of Rome is a Baptist Pastor, too. NC Lottery
Alana, It's important to us to be transparent and honest about our practices. All of our lottery's procedures are independently reviewed and audited to ensure fairness to all players, in all parts of the state!

6/11/2018 11:39 - Alana B.

Raleigh this and Raleigh that. chances are slim if you don't live in that area or within 100 miles of that area. lottery office will tell you "everyone has the same chance" but will then tell you "well, population numbers in Raleigh means they will most likely have more winners" #keepscratching #goRALEIGH

Hi Gregory, Part of the fun is that we do not have any knowledge of where the winning tickets end up. That is, until a winning ticket is claimed! We'd love to see a winner in Ahoskie! We hope your next ticket is a lucky one.
