Hubert Waters III of Kinston is celebrating his good fortune after winning a $355,631 Cash 5 jackpot.

Waters bought the lucky $1 ticket at The Country Store on N.C. 58 South in Kinston. It beat odds of one in 749,398 to win the July 12th jackpot.

He claimed the jackpot Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $250,724.

Cash 5 drawings are held every night. Monday’s jackpot is an estimated $53,000.

Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for education. For details on how $3.6 million raised by the lottery supported education programs in Lenoir County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website, https://www.nclottery.com.

Dear LZ, Every time I read this news blog, it always say's the lucky winner bought a 1.00 dollar ticket. Man, how lucky can you get. I get 3 to 5 dollars worth every day I play. So I guess I need to buy 3 single tickets or 5 singles tickets to see if that helps my odds. I would like to thank Schmeka w for the lucky numbers, I think I will get me just a dollar ticket for tonight's drawing.. I we should win tonight, see you at NC EDUCATION LOTTERY HEAD QUARTERS.

Michael R. Hey another thing that seems funny to me is that if the same ball comes out so many times than the other balls should have the same outcome. then therefore the players that have already won off these same set of numbers there should be a chance they will come out again. just curious

Michael R. Once again I agree with how you feel about this because I feel the same way. How is one ball drawn more than others unless the balls have different weight on them.Impossible all 41 balls cannot be put into that machine. The NCEL knows exactly what number is being drawn and what number they want to come out. I have been playing these same numbers 7,14,21,32,35 since game first launched. They always play one number around it either one of my numbers . So what does that tell you just to get you more excited to play. That's why i quit playing its all a big SCAM!! other people think so as well. good luck everyone that wants to win the cash 5 NC Lottery
Lottery balls get inspected by the Standards Division of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to ensure they are the same weight and diameter. http://sfntoday.com/commissioner-troxler-national-weights-and-measures-week/

@MICHAEL R.: You can be absolutely certain that all of the balls are in every slot for the drawing and that the balls are not tampered with in any way. The entire process is monitored by surveillance cameras, an auditor who does not work for the lottery is present for every drawing, and we welcome all players to attend a live drawing to see that the results of drawings are fair to everyone who plays. We hope you'll join us.

Schemeka W, since my last post the 1 and 2 have been drawn a few more times. In fact in the last 10 draws, the 1 or 2 has been drawn 6 times. Now I am pretty good at math and I know that if there are 41 balls to be drawn from, then 1 and 2 shouldnt be drawn no more frequently than 33 and 34 or even 40 and 41. The frequency at which 1 and 2 are drawn just doesnt compute unless the 1 and 2 balls are weighted or they are no putting all 41 balls in the drum(cylinder). Ive been playing the same set of of numbers since the lottery began the Cash 5 and its rare that I get one of my balls drawn and even rarer to get two balls drawn yet the 1 and 2 are always drawn. Its baloney!! Im not here to heap praise on NCEL, Im here to call it like I see it. Its not a good lottery and everybody say this. Period!!NC Lottery
Hi Michael, Please see our reply above.

I agree michael something is not right that 1 ball has been drawn over 10 times in the cash 5 this month. I feel exactly were you are coming from are all the 41 balls being put into the machine. needs to be investigated.

7/28/2018 10:06 - Michael R.

Ughhh the 1 was drawn again last night in the Cash 5. Ive been playing the same set of 5 numbers for the Cash 5 since the Cash 5 began in the NCEL and just one of my 5 numbers(a different one) is drawn like every 5 or 6 draws yet the frequency of 1 and 2 drawn is astounding. I will never hit the Cash as long as the 1 or 2 is always drawn.

7/26/2018 08:47 - Sarah B.

@MICHAEL R.: We can assure you that all of the balls are in the drum for every draw and that the draw results are completely random. What may look like a pattern is simply just randomness being random. If you were to analyze at the results over a larger time period, you will see that no pattern continues forever. It’s simply random results playing out over time. Best of luck.

No No no, totally misinterpreting what I am saying. I'm not saying 1 or 2 is the first number that pops out the machine because I know you place them in numerical order to be displayed for the players. Im saying once displayed, 1 and 2 are always the most frequent number drawn and that is not how math works if there are 41 balls in the drum. All balls should have a 1 in 41 chance of falling each draw. Case and point, in the month of July these balls have been drawn zero times(6-7-13-17-27) and these balls only once (3-4-11-12-14-15-16-18-20-21-22-24-26-28 and I stopped at 28) . That's 18 of the balls than have been drawn zero or 1 times yet 1 and 2 have been drawn 12 times. In my mind it just don't support the law of probability if each number is giving equal value or equal chance of being drawn. Seems to me that not all 41 balls are in that drum. lolNC Lottery
Good morning Michael, Please see our reply in the comment above. Thanks!

Hey Michael, The NCEL has no control over multi state games like PB, MM, or LB. And they are all 3 drawn in another state other then NC.

7/25/2018 01:06 - Denver G.

Michael R.. I think you thinking about it all wrong. The way they display the numbers after they are drawn is NOT the way the numbers come up. They just display them in numerical order.

7/25/2018 01:04 - Sarah B.

@MICHAEL R.: Hi Michael, Since the Cash 5 jackpot can be won by matching all 5 balls in any order, on the "Past Draws" and "Latest Draw" pages we simply list them in numerical order -- not necessarily the order they were drawn. You can see in the video of our most recent draw, the number 1 was actually the final number to be drawn. http://bit.ly/2lANlF7. All of our drawings are conducted in the presence of an independent auditor who ensures, among other things, that all balls are being placed into the machine. Our live draws are open to the public and we invite you to attend one to see the process for yourself!

7/25/2018 12:02 - Michael R.

Why does the Cash 5 begins with the number 1 or 2 more frequently than any other number if the numbers are suppose to be equally distributed? They should have no more chance of being drawn than the other 41 numbers. In July alone, 1 and 2 were drawn as the first number 12 times. This defies logic. Are all of the 41 balls being put into the drum? Another suggestion. When the Power Ball and Mega Millions get over $200 mill, they need to lower the numbers of white balls and lower the money ball so there can be at least 10 winners splitting those 200 mil and more jackpots. Its a shame that one person hit $522 mil by him or herself. NC Lottery

7/23/2018 03:07 - John R.

just read in another blog here that you draw multiple times for pick3 and pick4 before the actual draw... to "make sure" there are no problems with the machines. But... who's to say that all that extra usage won't cause a problem anyway? What you are doing by pre-draws is muddying up (i.e. ruining) the statistical probabilities of what gets drawn and really stacking the odds against players. There should be a public record then of exactly what "pre-draw" numbers come out so those of us who have tracked the draws for the last 10 years... actually have true data. No wonder the statistics are so skewed on numbers drawn lol... it makes sense now!NC Lottery
Hi John, The results of previous drawings – including pre-draws – do not affect the odds of subsequent drawings as each draw is independent from the rest. If you have specific information you would like to request regarding the pre-draws, please email player.info@lotterync.net and our team will work to gather the information you are looking for. Thanks!
