Davidson County man wins $159,155 Cash 5 jackpot

The purchase of a $1 Cash 5 ticket turned into a $159,155 win for Roby Frank of Lexington.

Frank’s good luck came with a ticket he bought during a stop in Maxton at the Sun-Do Cabinet Shop on Cabinet Shop Road. His Quick Pick ticket beat odds of one in 749,398 to win Sunday’s jackpot.

Frank claimed the prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $112,209.

Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com.

Cash 5 jackpots normally start at $50,000, but during the month of August the lottery is starting the jackpot at $100,000 as part of a special $100K Days promotion. Someone who bought a ticket at Express Stop II on Gibbon Road in Charlotte won the $100,000 jackpot Wednesday on the first night of the promotion. Tonight’s jackpot will again be $100,000.

Good morning, Schemka. Every Cash 5 ticket no matter where it is purchased has the same chance of winning the jackpot as any other ticket purchased anywhere else. Mr. Frank brought his ticket in Lexington which in in the Triad. An Augusta, Ga. man brought his Cash 5 ticket in Spring Hope in Nash County and won a jackpot. We wish our Cash 5 players in Fayetteville good luck and look forward to a win there again soon.

Someone made remarks about numbers 1 & 2 being drawn in the Cash 5 multiple times recently. Took a look at the numbers for the entire history of the Cash 5 and here is some data. The top 5 numbers drawn are 11, 27, 5, 8 and 25. Numbers 1, 24 and 35 are tied for 6th and #2 is 25th.

Hey DG got some numbers for ya. I analyzed the drawings from inception in Oct 2006 (4,298 drawings, 936 jackpot wins). Avg # of wins per month is 4.64. Most wins in a month (12) in Jan 2010, Apr 2012 and Mar 2013. Least wins in a month (3) in Aug 2011, Jan 2017 and Apr 2017. Years with most wins, 2012 with 93 and 2014 with 89. Years with least wins, 2016 with 59 and 2017 with 63 (not including 2006 because it was just getting started). Day of week with most wins, Saturday with 153 and Tuesday with 143. Day of week with least wins, Monday with 104 and Sunday with 127. Back to back wins have occurred 147 times. The minimum $50K prize has been won 143 times. 6 jackpots have been over $1M, 69 jackpots have been between $500K and $1M. Beer time!

Congrats to you Frank & last nights winner. Hey 87spg & LZ crunch some numbers for me and check my math. I went back several years and checked the cash5 results per month to get the average times per month it is hit. What I got was about 5.5 times per month. The least times was 3, the most was 8. It did not matter whether there were 39 numbers or 41. Or whether the starting jackpot was $50k or $100k. It's raining, I urge everyone to check the past results and decide for yourself. Do you play a combination of the #s that come up most or the ones that come up least? It's all luck my friends pure & simple !!!!NC Lottery
