‘Wow! I can’t believe it!’ construction worker says of $200,000 win

Sergio Rivas from Dallas, Texas, says he can’t believe his luck after winning a $200,000 top prize playing the Mega Bucks scratch-off game.

Rivas, who frequently travels around the country for work, is currently staying in Charlotte helping with the I-77 construction project. His good luck hit when he stopped by the 7-Eleven on Old Statesville Road in Charlotte and bought the lucky $5 ticket.

Rivas claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.  After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,003.

“Wow,” Rivas said in shock upon being presented with his big check. “I can’t believe it. Very exciting!”

Mega Bucks launched in November of 2017 with seven top prizes of $200,000. Three top prizes remains to be claimed.

congrats another winner in Charlotte. I was told by a lottery customer service that the reason most winners are from these cities is because it has a bigger population of people buying tickets which i don't think is fair to others spending there money to win

I agree..Charlotte or Raleigh. I have been following the lottery for a long time, its always these 2 cities. And its not about population..because they don't count for the whole state combined.

The Pick 3 and Pick 4 were so much better when NC Lottery first began,. They brought out good numbers and I used to win all the time. Since that first Lottery Director left, this lottery has gone to crap. It sucks man.
