Durham woman wins $4 million lottery prize

Linda Tate of Durham is celebrating her good fortune after she played Millionaire Bucks and won $4 million.

Tate bought the $20 ticket at the Tri Star Mobil on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham.

She claimed the prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. She had the choice of taking a $4 million annuity that has 20 payments of $200,000 a year or a lump sum of $2.4 million. She chose the lump sum. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $1,692,030.

Hey Zachary, We get asked about ticket odds quite often and wanted to share some info about how it works! When a game states odds of 1 in 4, that means that 75% of tickets are non-winning tickets and 25% of tickets contain a break-even prize at minimum. Since all of those tickets are randomly distributed across the state, it does not mean that every fourth ticket you buy will have a winner. We wish you the best of luck.

Congrats Gregory F last time I checked Durham was about 4 hours east of Asheville not exactly the "western part of the state"

Gregory F your geography needs work. Neither Durham nor Chapel Hill is in the western part of the state. Both of these cities are in the piedmont, centrally located. If anything get mad that both of them were sold in the piedmont. Congratulations and GOD bless you Linda Tate.
