Second time Cash 5 jackpot winner to have his dream wedding

Charles Morgan of Laurel Hill said he can plan the wedding of his dreams after he won a $460,915 Cash 5 jackpot.

“We can finally set a date,” Morgan said. “We talked about doing something big, but didn’t think we’d have the money for it. Now we do.”

Morgan, an independent car dealer from Scotland County, is no stranger to good luck. This is the second time he’s won a Cash 5 jackpot. His first win came in 2015 when he won $53,000. Luck struck a second time when he stopped by Nic’s Pic Kwik on Andrew Jackson Highway in Laurel Hill and bought a Cash 5 ticket for Saturday’s drawing.

“It’s because I used my lucky numbers,” Morgan said. “It’s a combination of my children and grandchildren’s birthdays. I had a lucky feeling for several weeks and I just knew my numbers were going to come up again.”

Morgan found out he won the next morning when he went to get some coffee.

“I decided to check my ticket while I was out,” Morgan said. “I couldn’t believe it. I was elated!”

Morgan beat odds of one in 962,598 to win the jackpot. He claimed his jackpot Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $324,950.

Denver G good luck to you as I always tell the ones around me that have to play-It only takes 1 ticket you don't need to buy a ton. And from the statistics quick pick seems to be your best bet.

No worries NC S. I only play a few bucks a day. I try stay as informed as much as I can and try to pass that info on. I also urge players not to spend too much. Do I think I have to win or going to win just cause I play the same #s all the time,or play everyday? No. Do I pray to win? No. Heck, last night the C5 was 7,11,21,26,32. I had 7,11,21,27,42 and that was a QP oh well. Cheers, it's way past beer30.

I appreciate it Denver G and hopefully your life doesn't. Any you continue to play the lottery daily if that's what makes you happy. Just like in life people have differences and make choices according to what they believe. If you don't agree with them, OH WEll. You and alot of others come on here and give praise to all the winners which is your choice but I like to give the majority donator/losers(what I call most Lottery players) a little caution about gambling just like I would anyone going to Vegas,etc. Play wisely and don't get wrapped up in this get rich scheme because the odds are more against you that printed on any ticket.

I feel blessed every day I wake up and I'm sorry you don't and are waiting for your so called blessed day. Spend your money wisely as I said it's yours and you can do with it what you like as can I. My money goes to my other outdoor hobbies in case you're wanting to know as I had others give me opinions on that to. Seems though according to your logic your the one mad and not blessed as you've clearly not won either. I'll keep spreading my thoughts as you can yours but don't let mine affect you so much. I don't have anyone I need to fool-What do I have to gain? If you can read you'd see I always say play responsibly or within your means. Hey, Denver. Here's what we have. In the last three years, there’s only been one large Cash 5 prize that went unclaimed. That prize was for $100,000. The ticket was sold in Kinston and expired in August 2018. There is a $100,000 Cash 5 prize that will expire at the end of February 2019. That ticket was sold in Hillsborough. We only track larger jackpots, $100,000 or more. So before the lottery raised the starting jackpot to $100,000, there could have been smaller jackpots that went unclaimed. We do have money amounts for unclaimed Cash 5 prizes. Here’s the total amount of Cash 5 prizes that went unclaimed for 2017 and 2018. This includes all of the small wins. 2018: $1,234,000 in Cash 5 prizes went unclaimed 2017: $839,000 in Cash 5 prizes went unclaimed. That's the best we can do tonight. Check those tickets folks.

To @ Shannon C. How do you know I play the lottery. I'm putting my facts out their just like your putting your opinion out there. I'm wanting consumers to know the NC Lottery is not truly random and is a controlled environment with odds against you larger than printed on any ticket. Why is it okay for you to promote the games but not okay for me to warn others not so gullible. As I say if you're going to play play what you and your family can afford without creating hardship. There are more stories of how the Lottery has ruined families than have helped-you just don't hear about them. Don't take my thoughts on the NC Lottery as negative just informational. If you choose to spend you families entire income/assets on the Lottery that's your choice, but I'm hoping to get across to as many as possible to play responsibly and not buy into a get rich scheme. You can't silence me if my thoughts aren't inline with yours. Sorry

Do the percentages listed for prizes and education take into account the non claimed winnings? Also does the education percentage take into account the funds the General Assembly uses out of the education REVENUE for non educational purposes? When I tally all those figure it seems adm. cost,commissions,and advertising are just as much as REVENUE for education which is why I ask why is Education used in the name-to make people think there donations are going to a good cause?NC Lottery

@NC S.: To clarify, 100% of lottery PROFITS benefit education. That number is different than lottery REVENUE, which is the total distribution of funds. Here's the revenue breakdown: 63% of revenue goes to pay prizes, 26% goes to education, 7% goes to commissions, 3% goes to administrative costs, and 1% goes to advertising. Where do I get the information that 100% of profits go to education because all the reports I see from precious years are around 30%. So seeing as there are so many unclaimed prizes and 50% of that goes to education shouldn't the total amount of proceeds going to education be higher than the 30% reported? If NC Lottery didn't have all those unclaimed winnings making up for their shortfall in education donations the percentage going to education would be alot lower than 30%. Wouldn't it be more accurate to be name the NC Lottery and not NC Education Lottery? NC Lottery

Hey LZ, in 2018 just how many C5 jackpots went unclaimed/expired. Kinda hard to know since they have 180 days to claim. I am thinking its is very low, maybe 1-2. I know you guys put out a blog/alert when a jackpot is getting close to the expiration date. I don't remember seeing ANY for the cash5. Maybe PB or MM but not the C5.NC Lottery

Looks to me like the independent auditor needs to be audited as he's been compromised-everyone can be bought. Look at the history of Lottery scams from within. I can guarantee you the lottery is not truly random. Also can you tell me why looking back the past 12 months why the non claimers for Cash 5 winners is so high. Seems like a high percentage of people play and win but don't claim their prizes which seems odd. What happens to those funds that don't get claimed? Seems like a good scam to keep more money in house.NC Lottery
The lottery does not keep any profits, 100% of profits go to education. By state law, if a prize goes unclaimed, 50% of that money goes into the education fund 50% goes right back to the players in the form of prizes.

Gotta know somebody internally at the Lottery just like previous winners that won multiple times. The lottery is not truly random. If you're going to play, play responsibly-the truest statement the lottery suggest because they have no morals or integrity.NC Lottery
We have lots of folks who have won prizes multiple times. Some combination of good luck and taking lots of chances to win is what accounts for it. But we can assure you that our drawings are random! The lottery has extensive security procedures in place to ensure the integrity of the drawings, including supervision by an independent auditor.
