$200,000 win boosts retirement fund of New Hanover County man

Josh Myers of Wilmington says his good luck today will pay off tomorrow as he plans to save for retirement his $200,000 lottery prize.

“It’s going to be keep on going with the regular routine,” Myers said as he collected his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. “It’s not enough to retire on, but it’s enough to have for retirement.”

Myers said he was just looking for any $5 ticket when he purchased a $200,000 Back Scratch ticket at the Scotchman on North 23rd Street in Wilmington.

“Very excited,” he said of the win. “Very shocked.”

After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,501.

The ticket launched in September with six top prizes of $200,000. One top prize remain.

Ticket sales from games like $200,000 Back Scratch make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. Tony T..I can tell you. I run spreadsheets..you'd be SHOCKED at the people winning..4..5..6 and even 7 times.

thanks for backing me on this guys, I think it'd only be fair. Feel more players here must agree , wish they'd speak up if so then maybe some changes will made. Limit the number of entries PER person/day/ drawing, surely the IT team with here could handle that change?! Would love to know the % of repeat winners here, maybe Mike S. has, or could, pin that one down. NC Lottery
Information pertaining to winners is public and available by sending a public information request to player.info@lotterync.net. Thanks, Tony!

I absolutely love this idea Denver G & Tony. Us regular people who dont have the upper hand of digging for tickets or being a store owner/employee would have a better chance of a win every one in awhile. Really discouraging to see the same people win 2 .3..4 times when you've been playing for years and NOTHING

Happy Retirement Josh :-)

I agree with Tony T. There has to be a better way to even the playing field. #1 stop allowing winning tickets to be entered, it gives merchants & their employees an unfair advantage. I know people will say enter you tickets first. All good, but there are way more non members of the LZ then members. Limit the # of entries per day or per contest. That would cut out the players that have way too much money to spend on tickets. And it would discourage people from going from store to store digging thru the trash w/o ever buying a ticket. When ever you do a face book contest you limit the entries to only one per player!! The players club is not what you intended it to be!! You have created a 2 headed monster with no way to control it. No wonder players are becoming increasingly frustrated. NC Lottery
We appreciate your suggestion, Denver. While there are no plans to add a limit, we will certainly share this with the folks who handle our Lucke-Rewards and second-chance programs.

@TONY T.: You are correct, Tony. The daily limit of 75 tickets is regarding the amount of tickets that a player can collect points on in a single day. Currently, there is no limit on the amount of drawings a player can enter in a day nor is there a limit on how many entries a player is allowed to have in any one specific drawing. We appreciate your feedback and will take note of it.

Thanks for your answer, wow ...almost like chances of getting struck by lightning to be a repeat winner here but it happens . On second thought LZ, I don't think limiting the # of tickets we can enter here ( down from 75 to 50 or less per day) would help that much to give EVERYONE more of an equal shot at winning a prize. ( that IS just how many you can input on the site right, and Not a limit to each drawing?) If so & I think it is ...then Please consider to LIMIT THE NUMBER of entries/how many points a promo./drawing can be entered PER PERSON PER DAY, you see it done at other websites all the time. ( most have 1x a day entry limits then limits on how many prizes can be won in a single ongoing weekly type promo. ) You've heard other complain about this, hope you all will seriously think about making some changes . @TONY T.: Hi Tony, We have just over 1 million active users in the Players Club! Also -- thanks for the feedback regarding the daily limit. We hear both ends of the spectrum when it comes to daily limits -- some players wish the limit was higher and some wish it was lower. At this time, the commission that oversees the lottery has approved only the daily limit that is currently in place, but we will take note of your feedback.

Hey LZ....question for you. How many members are in the players club? Also, since REPEAT WINNERS have been brought up, maybe you'd consider "leveling" the playing field for ALL of us some by taking the number of ticket entries we all can enter a day down to 50 ( or less) from 75. MOST of us can't afford to buy that many tickets . Those that DO enter 75 a day (I'd think) are prob. retailer employees (& a few others) getting them out of store trash. Nothing wrong with a little dumpster diving but the odds need to be made better for ALL of us here, somehow. Boggling at times to see how many actually win 2-3 times ( and more ) vs. how many NEVER win. NC Lottery
