Christie Eaves of Shelby said she plans to make her grandkids dreams come true after she won a $100,000 Cash 5 jackpot.
“I have two granddaughters who live with me,” Eaves said. “I spoil them anyway, but now I can do something special for them. One wants a dollhouse and the other wants a phone.”
Eaves bought the winning Quick Pick ticket at Curve View Quick Shop on Fallston Road in Shelby. It beat odds of one in 962,598 to match all five numbers in Thursday’s drawing.
Eaves, who works for a company that makes car parts, found out she won the jackpot when she got to work.
“I checked the numbers on my cell phone and couldn’t believe it,” Eaves said. “I showed my coworkers and they started screaming.”
After telling her supervisor she needed to go to Raleigh, Eaves drove straight to lottery headquarters to claim her jackpot. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $70,750.
“This feels great,” Eaves said after she got her check. “I always hoped I’d win. I can’t believe I actually did.”
Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Jackpots start at $100,000. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website.
