Orlando Floyd of Gastonia is the latest winner of one of the 21 prizes of $1 million in the Education Lottery’s $10,000,000 Colossal Cash game.
Floyd claimed his $1 million prize on Friday. His good luck occurred with a $30 ticket he purchased at the Times Turn Around on South New Hope Road in Gastonia.
Floyd had a choice of an annuity prize paid out as $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $424,509.
The $10,000,000 Colossal Cash game started in August 2018 with four top prizes of $10 million and 21 $1 million prizes. Two $10 million prizes remain to be won.
Players can win one of the $1 million prizes instantly as Floyd did or by entering their $10,000,000 Colossal Cash tickets into second-chance drawings in the game. Seven $1 million prizes remain to be claimed instantly and three more can be won in the second-chance drawings. The entry deadline for the third drawing is Jan. 31 and the drawing is scheduled for Feb. 5.
