Charlotte man finds lottery ticket ‘loaded’ with $100,000 prize

Charles Kirby of Charlotte tried his luck with the $10,000 Loaded game and found a ticket worth $100,000.
 
Kirby bought the $20 ticket at Sadler’s Travel Store on Sadler Road in Dunn. Kirby claimed his prize on Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $70,756.
 
The $10,000 Loaded game started in October with three $4 million prizes and three $100,000 prizes. Kirby is the first to win $100,000, leaving all three of the $4 million prizes and two of the $100,000 prizes up for grabs.
 
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $700 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have helped all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
