If you played Cash 5 on the Crystal Coast this weekend, check your tickets. Someone won a $1,112,709 Cash 5 jackpot.

The ticket for Sunday’s drawing was sold at the Coastal Mart on Emerald Drive on Emerald Isle. It matched all five numbers to win the prize.

Because the beach is such a popular vacation destination, we need your help to spread the word. We want to make sure whoever bought the ticket realizes their good fortune.

If you’re the lucky winner, remember you have 180 days from the drawing to claim the prize.

I don't think that there's any reasonable - or legal - way to make sure that only people from NC play or win lottery games. We always play lottery games in other states when we're traveling; we've never won anything but it's fun still fun to play different games, though my wife was **not** happy when I bought - and lost at - two $50 dollar scratch off tickets.

Really NCEL? The winning ticket sold at a resort beach town where the winner may be from another state? Haha. Let's hope its a NC resident. NC residents contributes 100s of millions of dollars to this lottery each year and the winning ticket is sold at a resort town?(so disappointing) . I'm being facetious but serious at the same time. Haha

To RICKY, I hope you are right and it is a NC resident, local or not. Heck I hope it was someone from WNC that went to the beach for vacation. I just hope players don't come on here and disrespect the winner with offensive comments again. Just be happy for them. Don't worry about what they were doing, where they live, their tax situation or what they plan on doing with the money.

Hi Juan, By law, half of an unclaimed prize goes back into the prize fund for future prizes and promotions for our players, and half goes straight to education.

I wish the lottery would be transparent and their Second chance and other drawings. I understand there are random number generated by a CPA firm but it would be nice to have a explanation and a video of the computer selecting the number. Why not? I think it would give people a better sense of security End it would be very interesting to watch! NC Lottery
Transparency in our drawings are of utmost importance, which is why we have strict procedures in place to ensure fairness in all of the drawings. Our security team conducts the drawings in the presence of an auditor using a certified random number generator that is housed on an air-gap computer. The room that houses the RNG cannot be accessed without members of both the lottery's security AND audit staff present. The room also has a security camera that records the process. NC Lottery Team, what’s the deal with Lucky for Life game ? It seems no one is winning the top prize on a weekly basis, like Cash 5. Maybe it’s time to revamp or end this game. T NC Lottery
We appreciate the input, Brooks. Lucky For Life is actually quite different than Cash 5, so that is not a true comparison. The odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are one in 962,598 while the odds of winning a Lucky for Life top prize are one in 30,821,472. Keep in mind as well that Lucky for Life is a multi-state game, so there could be top prize winners from other participating states that we don't know about. Hope this helps!

If you read the blog or our social media pages long enough, you'll see that we have winners in all different placed across North Carolina. We get similar comments from players in every region of the state - some notice that there are many winners in the east. Some say the same thing about the west. Many think that only big cities have big winners. And some mention that a lot of big winners are from small towns. The truth is that it takes a lot of luck to win no matter where you live or play - big city or small town, east or west!

OK, this is one of those times you can tell us the exact amount this person will take home after taxes vs. the whole annuity argument. Right?NC Lottery
Just like we share in all of our blog posts about big winners, when this winner claims his or her prize we will share the exact amount that they took home. We can't say for sure what that amount will be because since a winner has 180 days to claim his or her prize, tax rates could change before they come in to claim, which would then change the take-home amount.
