Fayetteville man to make wife’s dream come true with $1,124,366 Cash 5 jackpot

Young Suh of Fayetteville said he plans to make his wife’s dream of owning a house come true after he won a $1,124,366 Cash 5 jackpot.

“I can’t wait to give her the deed that has her name on it,” Suh said. “This is wonderful.”

Suh’s good fortune started when he stopped at the Sunoco-Ramsey Street on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville and bought some Quick Pick Cash 5 tickets for Thursday’s drawing. He checked the numbers the next morning when he woke up.

“I checked the first ticket and only got one number,” Suh said. “When I got to the last ticket, and saw that I had all five numbers, I started laughing and ran to tell my wife. I just couldn’t believe it.”

Suh claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $795,489. His ticket beat odds of one in 962,598 to win the jackpot.

Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website. The jackpot for tonight’s drawing is $100,000.

Congratulations! I just have to share this. We were coming back from Tennessee on vacation and as soon as we crossed into NC we stopped and I grabbed a lottery ticket at a Speedway store. I scratched it and had won 200.00. Woohoo! Fast forward 4 days after we get back and I stop at the local Handy Mart to cash in my ticket. The cashier said, we can only give you a 100.00 in cash. I was like...hmm.. ok I’ll just grab a 100.00 worth of tickets so I can get my money. I bought 4 tickets..hoping and praying I’d get something on them. Boom...won 200.00 on one ticket, 20.00 on the other and 5.00 on the other. For a total of 225.00. 3 out of the 4 won. Happy dance! These tickets should be a form of entertainment for you. Never spend more than you can afford to lose. I love scratch offs and no I don’t always win...but it’s the excitement of seeing if I did that makes it fun. Scratch on!!! NC Lottery

Perhaps @BRENT W was including the time he'd been going to SC before it was offered here? Funny thing about that though, I've heard for years that it's a LOT easier to win in SC than in NC, and this was even before @NCEL made our chances of winning even worse! I'm talking when the C5 only had 39 numbers and the odds were 1 in 575,757. I remember that well because I really wanted to win it and I knew the odds by heart. I too got discouraged YEARS ago, that is, until I finally hit 4 out of 5. This wasn't a fluke either. I hit it 2 more times in 2+ years! But, then NC decided to do us a 'favor'. Then we had to match 41 numbers, odds over 1 in 700K+. Since then, they did it again, 43 number. Now our odds are nearly 1 in 1 million! Btw, I also have failed to hit this a 4th time which I'm confident would've already happened IF they'd left well enough alone. As for SC, sounds like they're better for winning on both draw games AND scratchers and get this, their largest scratchers are $10.

@Brent W. I have decided after 13 years of playing scratch offs to stick only with draw games. I added up this year's losing scratch off tickets and as of today I have 13,901.00 worth of losing tickets. Now one must add back the winning tickets to get a true net loss-but I know deep down it's not 14,000.00. 7,000+ retailers-3 to 4 big jackpots on each game-well over 1 million break even to winning a mere pittance on tickets printed for each game=you don't have a chance. I know the saying that losing tickets pay for the winning tickets. Just won't be mine. Going to throw my $ into real draw games only. Wont' even post my comment on the knowledge of where NCEL places or not places scratch off tickets. Not enough characters allowed and you would not post anyhow. But it would blow the public away! Tx for posting this one!
