Lottery to conduct additional 2019 Holiday Second Chance drawing

The N.C. Education Lottery plans to conduct an additional 2019 Holiday Second Chance drawing on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

If you entered holiday scratch-offs into the 2019 Holiday Second Chance drawing on Dec. 4, your entries will be in the Wednesday drawing.

As allowed under rules for the drawing, the lottery chose to hold the additional drawing because a review by lottery staff discovered that not all entries had been included in the Dec. 4 drawing.

All prizes won in the Dec. 4 drawing will be honored and paid, including the top prize of $50,000, five $10,000 prizes, and 50 $500 prizes, as they are claimed.

The Wednesday, Jan. 29 drawing will award the same number and amounts of prizes. The names of winners will be posted on the lottery website as usual after they claimed their prizes.

Nothing is more important to state lotteries than ensuring the integrity of their drawings. If a mistake does occur, steps are taken to correct the mistake and ensure that players get the entries they are supposed to. In this case, the way to ensure fairness is to conduct an additional drawing.

The final 2019 Holiday Second-Chance drawing will be held as scheduled Wednesday, Feb. 5. The deadline for entering Holiday scratch-off tickets for that final drawing is Friday.

So when an audit catches a mistake and the lottery takes steps to correct the problem and also holds another drawing to make up for the mistake it's just proof that the lottery rigs the games? That doesn't make any sense at all. I guess some people will never be satisfied no matter what the lottery does.

When awarding prizes for Lucke-Rewards and Second Chance drawings, the prize awarding process is not complete until the winner has claimed their prize. Only then is the website updated with their name.

This may seem odd but I am an avid lottery player in NC and it appears that there are very few 2nd chance winners of Asian descent and in my case Muslin. Is it coincidental, is it just me or is the lotto staged? It just doesn't seem right.NC Lottery

How did this happen with all the integrity and safe guards the lottery speaks of like pre-audits and post audits. Is this how there's been so many repeat winners in the past by limiting/controlling the entries? This can't be the only time this has happened and won't be the last. All these games are computer controlled which means they can and are manipulated easily by software

Hi Dwight, Nothing is more important to us than striving to ensure the integrity of ALL of our drawings, both big ones such as Powerball and smaller ones such as our 2019 Holiday second-chance drawings. If a mistake does occur, then steps are taken to make things right. You mention that there are drawings that happened 3 months ago that don't have winners posted. For promotional drawings, each winner has 30 days from the initial notification to claim their prize. If 30 days passes, the prizes is then awarded to an alternate and the process starts over and will continue until a winner responds within 30 days to claim. Hope this helps explain things!

Although unlikely, it's certainly possible that a winner in the first drawing wins again. It's possible that a player could have won a smaller prize in the first drawing, but might have won the $50,000 prize had they received all of their entries. I wish you could enter any amount of entries in the drawings. Now you only have the option of 1 thru 10 or all of your points. That means if I want to enter 100 entries I have to do it 10 times. Hey Gene, You don't need to have the physical ticket to win. If your entry is selected as a winner, the email you receive will have all the info you need in order to claim.
