Extended deadline for lottery prizes to end

The extended deadline for a big batch of scratch-off tickets and for prizes won in drawings is Monday, Nov. 2, so it’s time to double-check any tickets you have.

This extended deadline applies to lottery prizes that would have expired between March 10 and Aug. 1. It was part of an effort by the lottery to make sure winners had enough time to collect their prizes.

The additional time to claim any prizes on these tickets prizes resulted from the Stay At Home order back in the spring when we temporarily closed our claim centers. We reopened our claim centers in May when the order was lifted.

If you haven’t already, go ahead and bring in any winning tickets as soon as you can. The Nov. 2 deadline also applies to a second batch of scratch-off tickets that are part of our routine end-of game process.

Remember: Prizes of $599 or less can be claimed at your favorite lottery retail locations; prizes between $600 and $99,999 can be claimed at any lottery claim center; and prizes of $100,000 or more must be claimed at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. Here’s a look at the games involved in the Nov. 2 deadline.

Lucky 7’s, $4,000,000 Diamond Dazzler, Lucky No. 7, Hit $5,000, Big Money Playbook, Quick Ca$h, $50 or $100 (2019 Version), 5X The Cash, Lady Luck Doubler, Loaded $50, Loaded $500, Payout, Twisted, All About The Bens, $10,000 Win It All, $50,000 Win It All, $150,000 Cashword, White Elephant, Holiday Cheer, and Holiday Gifts.

Winning tickets from some drawings

If you won a prize from one of the lottery’s draw games and that ticket would have expired between March 10 and Aug. 1, then you still can claim that prize until 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. This applies to all draw games: Powerball, Mega Millions, Carolina Keno, Lucky for Life, Carolina Cash 5, Carolina Pick 4, and Carolina Pick 3.

just wondering, recently the $5 Mega Buck jackpot was won with only one left. today i see that it stills says one left and it was reordered. did the reorder just do one jackpot?NC Lottery
Hi William, That's right! The Mega Bucks game was reordered on Oct. 1 and one top prize was added.

I purchased a Mega Millions Megaplier X5 Monday. I had 3 numbers which amounted to a $10.00 win. When I cashed it in the clerk said that I only won $30.00 instead of $50.00 which should have been my winnings since I purchased the ticket when Mega Millions stated that the Megaplier was X5. That was deceptive at least on their part. How can they state a X5 Megaplier and then at day of the draw say it changed to less. That was my last Mega Millions ticket. If I cannot trust that the lottery will honor their word then I will not play their game! NC Lottery
Hi Oceanous, If you look at past Mega Millions drawings, the drawing last friday drew a 5X Megaplier. In last night's drawing, a 3X was drawn. The Megaplier number is not known beforehand, so we're not sure where you saw that the Megaplier was 5X for last night's drawing. If you're ever unsure of how much a ticket won, we encourage you to check it using the lottery's ticket checker on the mobile app or at any retail location.

When you win in the monthly drawings held, if you can't be reached by phone, do they reach out to you by email? And how long do you have to respond? What happens to unclaimed prizes?NC Lottery
Great question, Kristi. When a player wins one of our second-chance or Lucke-Rewards drawings, we try to get in contact with them several different ways. First, we'll send an email. Then, we'll follow up with a phone call and will send a certified letter to the winner's address if necessary. Winners have 30 days from the initial notification to respond and claim. If we don't hear from them, we begin the process again with an alternate winner and we will do this until someone claims.
