On Oct. 3, Gazi Ahmed of Raleigh tried his luck on a $10 Fast Play ticket and scored a $231,975 jackpot.

Ahmed purchased his winning $10 Jackpot 7s ticket from the Swift Creek Mini Mart on Rand Road in Garner, where he works as a cashier.

He claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $164,125.

Since Fast Play started last month, jackpots have been hit nine times.

The jackpot is one of the exciting features of the new Fast Play game. The rolling, progressive jackpot increases with every ticket sold until it is won. The odds of winning a Fast Play jackpot are 1 in 240,000.

Printed on each ticket is the amount of the jackpot when the ticket is sold and how much of that jackpot the ticket could win. Players can also win instant cash prizes on their Fast Play ticket.

Another suspicious big win. I find it hard to believe that of all the people who could've bought that ticket it just happened to be the cashier.NC Lottery
Hi Charles, While there is no law in North Carolina barring retailers or their employees from playing the lottery, more than 80 percent of all lottery retailers in North Carolina report having a “No Play on Duty” policy for employees. Our security team conducted a thorough investigation before awarding the prize to this player. Lottery prizes are only awarded when there is no evidence to suggest something is wrong.

I had my concerns with these tickets...we noticed the same thing..cashiers looking at them after printing...especially the Jackpot one...please do not respond with anything NC lottery...we know what to do....just putting in my observations...

@MARY W.: Thank you for sharing your concerns with us, Mary. In most stores where lottery tickets are sold, you should be able to see the Fast Play ticket bring printed from the lottery terminal. The retailer should hand the ticket immediately to you. You can then check the date and time printed on every ticket. You also have the option of purchasing your tickets from our vending machines if you prefer. We have checks and balances in place to ensure the security of our games, including our new Fast Play games. If you see something that looks suspicious happening at a store, please call our Security Hotline at 1 888-732-6235 to report what happened.

One cashier at one of the stores where I buy my tickets kept telling me I had won before I even saw the ticket. I started observing him and as the ticket was printing out, he would look over it. I really did not like that as I like to take the ticket home and figure it out myself. NC Lottery needs to tell the cashiers to stop studying the tickets as they print. The Big Oil Companies have trained their employees as they never study the tickets. I started buying mine from the Big Oil Companies instead of the small family owned businesses because of this. I will buy from the family stores if there is a particular cashier who I know never looks at the ticket. Jut saying this and wondering if anyone else has observed this behavior. NC Lottery needs to pass the word about not studying the tickets as they are printing. Just a thought. NC Lottery
We hear you, Mary. Please see our reply above.

So easy for him to buy a losing ticket at the beginning of shift, and look quickly at other customers tickets they buy and if he sees a winner switch them out real quick..something fishy hereNC Lottery
Hi there James, Anytime a person affiliated with a lottery retailer claims a big prize, our security team conducts an investigation. While there is no law in North Carolina barring retailers or their employees from playing the lottery, more than 80 percent of all lottery retailers in North Carolina report having a “No Play on Duty” policy for employees. Lottery prizes are only awarded when there is no evidence to suggest something is wrong.

Sorry to hear you haven't had more luck in Greenville lately, Amy. That said, we've certainly seen big winners in your area! Here's a link to some of them: https://bit.ly/35kXFHC

Wow!! Two jackpot winners at this mini-mart. I stop by there, a couple times a week, on my way to work. Maybe there's something to the $10 Fast Play tickets....
