Michael Baldwin of Swannanoa tried his luck on a $3 Power Play ticket and became one of three $100,000 winners in Saturday’s Powerball drawing.

“This couldn’t have happened at a better time,” he said as he claimed his prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

Baldwin purchased his winning Quick Pick ticket from the I Market on N.C. 9 in Black Mountain.

His winning Power Play ticket matched numbers on four of the white balls and the Powerball to beat odds of 1 in 913,000, winning him $50,000. His prize doubled to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier was drawn.

After required federal and state tax withholdings, Baldwin took home $70,751.

No one won the jackpot in Wednesday’s drawing. The jackpot stands at $341 million as an annuity prize or $262.5 million cash for Saturday’s drawing.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million. Players can try their luck and buy Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location, through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, or by using the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

I am glad to see the comments about how this NC Lottery. All these repeats is just awful. I have invested to much for years and my overall winnings are so low that it’s ridiculous. They are sucking in some profit while players are waiting for their lucky numbers to play exact and they just keep you off one digit daily. It’s just unreal how the same numbers keep coming.

Really!!!! when it comes to picking numbers by luck i prefer the balls picking then the random numerators. the balls would be really hard to manipulate where as the number picked by computer is easier to manipulate with a good computer programmer. really hope the lottery doesn't change it is good this way.

Worst lottery ive ever seen. Heard from so many players who say they gonna stop playing . You cant even bring out a Trip for the players. People aren't going to keep giving their hard earned money if you don't reward them back.

my friend in oregon said his state lottery drawing starts off at a million bucks and gets into the millions when someone wins. like our state lottery, the "cash 5", it has way better odds than the biggies like mega/pb. that said...why is our state lottery so low in beginning amount, while their's is not?NC Lottery
Hi Allen, the biggest difference is that the Oregon Lottery's in-state jackpot game is a 6-number game. Carolina Cash 5 is a 5-number game with different odds and prize structure. We created Cash 5 to have a balance between high jackpots and odds that our players would be most interested in. Hope this helps!

Hello! I wanted to know why some stores are Cash only when it comes to lottery sales but some stores like BP,CircleK,Sheets accept debit cards. Some smaller stores allow it but you have to spend a certain amount like $60 or more. Is this is an independent decision? Or are more fees associated with debit card transactions? NC Lottery
Hi Michael, any lottery retailer can accept debit cards as payment for lottery tickets, but it is up to the individual store or chain to decide which payment methods they want to accept. Any fees on debit cards would be determined by the store's agreement with the card companies.

Shirley B you are soooooo right! I guess NCEL thinks since they’ve played some numbers that paid out 1 million or better we don’t need over deserve a triple number to hit. Like I said in the past if everyone boycotts the Pick 3 & Pick 4, they won’t rack in any money either. We stand to gain cause we won’t be giving up money for false hopes. Happy Holidays & NCEL will YOU do better going into 2021, folks have a better chance of finding a winning scratch off on the ground they y’all letting an overdue triple Pick 3 number win!
