$1 million second-chance prize goes to Southern Pines man

Kenneth Moore of Southern Pines took a second-chance for luck on a lottery ticket and ending up winning $1 million.

Moore’s win came Wednesday as he won the grand prize in the Colossal Cash Second Chance Drawing. The drawing had 834,929 entries.

Moore claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He had the choice of taking an annuity that has 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $424,500.

Two Colossal Cash second-chance drawings remain. Each drawing offers 29 prizes including the grand prize of $1 million, three $10,000 prizes, and 25 prizes of $500. To enter those drawings, players enter their $10,000,000 Colossal Cash tickets via the lottery’s website, nclottery.com, or scan the ticket’s bar code using the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Then, we will follow up with a phone call and will leave a voicemail if we don't get an answer. Finally, we will send a certified letter if necessary. I noticed some older drawings, reindeer riches, the first holiday happiness, etc. show some winner notified. When someone doesn't claim their prize within 30 days, how and when is an alternate chosen? Maybe there is still hope for us non-winners. :)NC Lottery
There is hope! If a winner does not respond to our attempts to notify them within 30 days, we begin the process again with the first alternate winner. If they don't respond within 30 days, the process begins again with the next alternate, and so on until someone claims the prize. Alternate winners are chosen in order at the same time the original winners are drawn. Hope this helps answer your question.

Hey there Malinda, The upcoming drawings will only include entries that were made since the entry period for that drawing opened. In this case, that means it will only include entries from after the previous drawing ended.

Congrats, he was one of the lucky ones. If I did my math right there were 144. That's between the four 2nd chance drawings & 2 lucke-rewards drawings. There were millions upon millions of entries in these drawings. Odds of winning are extreme to say the least.
