Gary Heafner of Leland said ‘special numbers’ led him to winning half of Monday’s Cash 5 jackpot of $580,800.
Heafner stopped by the Circle K on 17th Street in Wilmington and bought one of two tickets that matched all five winning numbers in Monday’s drawing.
The other lucky ticket was sold at the Fast Stop on North Alston Avenue in Durham. The winner has 180 days to claim the prize.
Heafner claimed his half of the jackpot, $290,400, on Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $205,458.
Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website. The jackpot for Tuesday’s drawing is $100,000.
