Evelyn Burbridge of Angier never misses her chance to play Cash 5, and that dedication paid off with a $115,497 win.

“I buy Cash 5 tickets a week at a time,” Burbridge said. “I have one for every day of the week.”

She picks her own numbers, but these, she says, were just picked randomly.

“I’ve been playing the same numbers for months,” Burbridge said. “I knew they’d come up sooner or later!”

She bought her ticket at T-Mart Food Stores on North Raleigh Street in Angier and found out she had a winner on her hands while watching tv in the morning.

“I saw it come across the screen,” she said. “And I could not believe those were my numbers. I got up, checked my ticket, and it was correct.”

She couldn’t wait to share the great news with her two kids and two sisters.

“My sisters play all the time, just like I do. So, I knew that they would be jealous,” she joked.

The retired nurse was one of two big winners that matched all five winning numbers in the April 9 drawing. She beat odds of one in 962,598.

Burbridge claimed her half of the $230,994 jackpot Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $81,714.

“I am going to share some of it with my grandchildren and children,” she said. “The rest of it I’m going to do whatever I want to do with it.”

Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website. The jackpot for Tuesday’s drawing is $120,000.

Ticket sales from draw games like Carolina Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $700 million per year for education. For details on how $8 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Harnett County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
