Fredd Jordan, a chef from Smithfield, shopped for a scratch-off ticket at a Smithfield store and it dished up a $200,000 prize.

Jordan, who said he was semi-retired, was on his way for a job interview when he stopped at the Harimart on U.S. 70 East and bought some scratch-off tickets, including his winning $5 Emerald Green 8’s ticket.

“I was happy,” Jordan said as he claimed his winnings last week at lottery headquarters. “Couldn’t believe it.”

After state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,501. He said he planned to invest most of the money, but may take a trip to California to see his family.

The Emerald Green 8’s game started in March with four top prizes of $200,000. Jordan won the last top prize so the lottery will begin steps to end the game.

@CHARNELL N.: Hey Charnell, If you read the blog or our social media pages long enough, you'll see that we have winners in all different places across the state. We get similar comments from players in every region--some notice that there are many winners in the east. Some say the same thing about the west. Many think that only big cities have big winners. And some mention that a lot of big winners are from small towns. The truth is that it takes a lot of luck to win no matter where you live or play - big city or small town, east or west! That said, we've certainly had big winners in the areas you mentioned. Here's a quick google search for some of them: https://bit.ly/2TkkDt7

Congratulations! I did a little investigation and found that only big winners only happen around the Raleigh area. I been playing for a while and no big million dollar tickets been found in Moyock, Elizabeth city, Kings Grant, Williamson. No where far from the lottery center. I think it’s not fair. Even the second chance drawings is not near these areas . Something is terrible wrong. I don’t think this will post because other people will see and catch on . But any way! Congratulations! God bless! NC Lottery
