Sampson County man ‘started yelling’ when he realized $200,000 win

For Jaleel Frederick of Clinton a $200,000 Triple Play top prize means he can buy his first home and start a new business.

Frederick, a retail merchandiser, stopped at the Express Mart on North Boulevard in Clinton on Tuesday and bought a Minute Maid juice along with two scratch-off tickets.

Once back in the car, he scratched his tickets. “I did the $5 ticket first,” said Frederick. “The winning number was 34 and I scratched off 34. I put it back in my bag because I didn’t believe it was true. I was like, ‘That’s not real!’ I just started yelling.”

Frederick called his mom to share the good news and said she was “really happy, too.”

“I had my cousin with me but I told him I had to go home and play some Gospel music over the loudspeaker,” he recalled.

Frederick claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $141,501.

He said his prize money will allow him to purchase his first home. He also plans to buy a truck and “start a T-shirt business.”

Will Fast Play Progressive tickets be sold online or at retail stores only?? NC Lottery
Hi Dewey, At this time we don't have plans to add Fast Play to our online offerings. Starting next month, Fast Play games can be purchased at most NC Lottery retailers and on all lottery self-service vending machines.

Hi Sharon. Whether you Quick Pick or choose your own numbers on a ticket at a store or play via subscription, you have the same chance to win a prize. The VAST majority of lottery tickets are still sold at retail locations. But that doesn't make it easier or harder to win! Good Luck!

Nothing is hitting in Maiden N C right now, in the past 3 weeks , i have spent 300.00 on 5.00 tickets. and i have won a grand total of 70.00. wow. Dont buy 5.00 tickets in Maiden. Just today after work . 3 stores i bought 80.00 worth of 5.00 tickets and i won a total of 10.00. damn

I don't think winning scratch off tickets are sold in Durham North Carolina because I've been playing for years and the most I've ever won is $25. Correct me if I'm wrong but I haven't heard of anybody in Durham when it any big ticket.NC Lottery

Why not put info out now about the progressive play that’s how you create a buzz instead of waiting until the game shows up. If you would like me to be apart of your marketing team send me the proper info over. Promotion is done in advance to create traction and when the games get here it’s a frenzy

Congratulations Frederick on your big win. It’s always good to see someone winning that can use the money to buy a home. I’m still trying to Nab my big win to buy my first home. I’m not giving up I just wish they would let more people win from online play. I play online weekly and watch the winners and know one is winning online.

This is great, but why can't we find any of the "Loaded 5000" tickets at any of the stores. This ticket is very rare and I have been to over 50 stores and nobody has it. The lottery office know where these tickets are because the stores have to check-in the packs, so this would be a great dashboard for the lottery to display. OK NCEL get it together.NC Lottery
Thanks for the feedback on this, Angela! As tickets are sold and prizes are won, popular games are then re-ordered by retailers. We have over 7,000 across the state. We leave it up to each individual retailer to determine which tickets they want to stock in their stores, as not every game is as popular at one store as it is at another. If you're looking for a specific game, your best bet is to stop by or call one of our regional office locations to see if they have that game.
