Cash 5 ticket bought in Fayetteville wins $1.2 million jackpot

A lucky Cash 5 ticket purchased at a Cumberland County convenience store scored the $1.2 million jackpot in Thursday’s drawing.

The winner bought the ticket at Speedway on Yadkin Road in Fayetteville and won $1,247,944. Thursday’s win ranks as the seventh highest jackpot won in Cash 5 history.

The ticket beat odds of 1 in 962,598 to match all five numbers in the drawing. The winning numbers in the drawing were: 2-20-27-35-40. The winner has 180 days to claim the jackpot.

Carolina Cash 5 tickets are $1 and drawings are held every night. Friday’s jackpot is $100,000.

Cash 5 is one of four lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets either through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. The other games are Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lucky for Life.

Increase the 4 out of 5 payout for the cash 5 back to $500! Get rid of the Easy Match option and add a PowerUP option. I have been playing for 8 years straight everyday even walked to store in the snow for ticket and only 4 out 5 balls twice so the odds are very difficult so why not pay out for 4 out 5? Hard to think large jackpots are never won in Charlotte, always seems to be in Raleigh, Greensboro area, every time there is a large jackpot. I'm Sure Lots of tickets are sold in Charlotte area. but If Had To Guess 60 To 70% Of large jackpots seems to be in that area ??

I have a question NC lottery so since the jackpot was won last night can there still be a100,000 winner tonight or do the jackpot have to grow high again for someone to win. I don't see to many people winning when it's 100,000NC Lottery
Hi Schmeka, great question! Cash 5 has a guaranteed starting jackpot of $100,000. Also, in every following drawing, the jackpot will increase by at least $10,000. Once the the jackpot gets higher and more players are buying tickets, it will often increase by more than $10,000 a day.

N.C. Lottery Thanks for answering my previous question however you didn’t really. I know when the jackpot is high more people play and also the website jackpot is only an estimate. But I wanted to know how it showed the winner winning only $992,500 at 715 am then a few hours later it was updated to the 1.27 million ? It didn’t make sense to how it showed a winning jackpot of $992,000 when 2 nights ago it was estimated to be $1 million, so I know there was lots of tickets sold yesterday for a chance at the estimated 1.2 million dollars NC Lottery
Hi Scott, I asked our Gaming Systems folks about this, and that jackpot total of $992,500 was inadvertently set and then quickly updated. The actual jackpot estimate of $1.2M was correct.

Ok so I have a question . I checked my Cash 5 tickets this morning at around 7:15 am, it showed the jackpot being won but at that time it was only showing a winning jackpot of $992,500 , I was wondering then how it was less then the $1 million as it was estimated for 2 draws ago ? So what changed it to now over 1.2 million?NC Lottery
Hi Scott, the Cash 5 amount shown on the website is only an estimate. The actual jackpot amount won is usually a slightly different amount. When the Cash 5 jackpot is high, like it was this week, that usually means more people will play. These increased sales leading up to the drawing can mean the jackpot will rise above the estimated amount shown.
