With the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots totaling over $1 billion dollars, North Carolinians have two chances to become the state’s newest multi-millionaire this week!

The estimated annuity jackpot for Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing has been raised to $625 million. The estimated cash value is $458.8 million. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million.

If won, it would be the 4th-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history and the 8th largest jackpot of any lottery game in U.S. history.

North Carolinians also have a chance at a big jackpot win in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing. The jackpot stands at an estimated $550 million as an annuity prize, or $411.4 million cash. If won, this would be the 9th largest jackpot in Powerball game history. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Wednesday’s drawing coincides with the fifth anniversary of Powerball’s world record $1.586 billion jackpot that was hit on January 13, 2016.

“This is only the second time in history of the games that both jackpots exceeded $500 million at the same time,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “It’s exciting. Remember to play smart, as it only takes one ticket to win, and play safe at stores where lottery tickets are sold.”

In addition to the jackpot prize, players can win lower-tier prizes of up to $2 million with Powerball and up to $5 million with Mega Millions. Some recent big prizes won by North Carolinians include:

  • A $100,000 prize and a $50,000 prize that were won in Saturday’s Powerball drawing. The $3 Power Play ticket that won $100,000 was purchased using Online Play and the ticket that won $50,000 was sold at the Fill Good on U.S. 74 West in Monroe.

Since both jackpots started rolling in September, tickets sales have raised an estimated $28.6 million for education programs in North Carolina.

Players can buy $2 Powerball or Mega Millions tickets at any lottery retail location, through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, or by using the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Hey guys I bought a mega million lottery ticket of course I didn’t win but is it possible to take the ticket that you didn’t win and put it in for a second chance do you think you do it but I don’t see where you can do it at please helpNC Lottery
Hi Latishia, Mega Millions tickets are not eligible for a Second Chance drawing, but you can scan or enter your ticket into your online account to receive Lucke-Rewards points. You can use your Lucke-Rewards points to enter a variety of different drawings for cash and other prizes.

Never mind I found it thru your "locator". It was a $2 ticket (triple dynamite) last top priZe. From 84 Asheville Hwy. It was a marathon gas station/food mart. Never heard it called Zero Point.

Good morning LZ. I was just looking at the updated winners page. I saw a man claimed a $25k winner off a $5 scratcher last week. Said it was bought at Zero Point in Brevard NC. I am very familiar with Brevard, but have never heard of a place called Zero Point. What and where is it???

the way the members here that are loyal Regular Customers compared to the ones on social media is like comparing the old saying, A Bird in the hand is Worth More then the two in the bush. This site with all the members should have first INFO on whatever is happening.

You only answered half of my previous question. Why is your winner section not updated ? December 31st is your last update, today is January 12th , a once a week update would be nice. Just to see where the winners are from.NC Lottery
Hi Scott, typically we do update the Winners section of the website weekly but there have been some delays due to the holidays and COVID. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience. In the meantime we have been posting winners daily on our social media accounts and you can find more big winner stories on the news blog.

Why is your winners section not being updated ? Last update of winners is listed as December 31st. Does this also mean that the number of winners left and the winning amounts are also not being updated for all the scratch off games ?NC Lottery
Hi Scott, if you go to https://nclottery.com/ScratchOff and then select the scratch-off game that you are interested in, you will see game information and remaining prizes that are updated daily.
