Raleigh man wins $100,000 on a scratch-off ticket

Richard Barnes of Raleigh tried his luck on a $25 scratch-off and won a $100,000 prize.

Barnes purchased his lucky Spectacular Riches ticket from the Saratoga Mart on Main Street in Saratoga in Wilson County. He claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $70,757.

Spectacular Riches started this month with eight top prizes of $1 million and 20 $100,000 prizes. All of the $1 million prizes and 18 of the $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Ticket sales from scratch-offs make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million a year for education. For details on how $62.8 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Wake County in 2020, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.

Seems to me all the winners are in richer areas of NC.NC Lottery
We see lots of luck across our state! Some areas, especially larger cities like Raleigh or Charlotte, may have more frequent winners just because there are more people playing in those areas. However, no matter where a ticket is purchased, the odds of it being a winner are the same - that's how we keep the lottery fair for all of our players. We hope your next ticket is a lucky one!
