Greensboro woman wins $200,000 on a scratch-off ticket

Nettie Cheek of Greensboro tried her luck on a $5 scratch-off and won a $200,000 prize.

“I still don’t believe it,” Cheek said as she claimed her prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. “It is amazing. I can get some things done, pay on some bills and help my kids. It’s still unreal.”

Cheek purchased her lucky Mega Bucks ticket from Wendover Curb Market on East Wendover Avenue in Greensboro. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $141,501.

Have you guys changed the formula or percentages when it comes to cash 5 jackpot?? How come it takes so long for it to grow? In the last 3 days it only grew by 10 thousand each day. Granted it used to grow only 10 thousand the first day but then increase by 30 thousand the second day and even 50 thousand the third or fourth day?? What's going on????????NC Lottery
Hi Fabio, thanks for your comment! The Cash 5 jackpot grows by a minimum of $10,000 each day, but that number is sometimes higher due to increased sales. So if more people purchase Cash 5 tickets before the next draw, the jackpot could climb higher than the minimum, but sometimes it will only grow the $10,000 in between draws. Hope this helps!
