$536,959 Cash 5 ticket sold in Charlotte expiring soon

Cash 5 players in North Carolina, especially those in Mecklenburg County, should double-check any tickets they have to see if they are the winner of an unclaimed $536,959 prize.

The ticket was purchased for the Wednesday, May 12 Cash 5 drawing and will expire on Tuesday, Nov. 9. It was sold at the 7-Eleven at 9025 Mallard Creek Rd. in Charlotte.

The $1 ticket matched the numbers on all five balls in the drawing. The winning numbers for that Cash 5 drawing were:

5-15-16-34-35

We’re urging our Cash 5 players to please check any tickets they have tucked away in a desk drawer, a billfold or pocketbook, or left in the glove compartment of a car. It would be sad to see a prize like this go unclaimed so we hope the winner comes forward soon. We have a big check waiting.

To claim the prize, the ticket must be presented at lottery headquarters in Raleigh by 5 p.m. on Nov. 9. This deadline ends the 180-day period for winners to claim prizes from the May 12 drawing.

To help find the winner, we're sharing news about the unclaimed prize with statewide media and posting an alert on the lottery’s website and social media channels.

Hello Nclottery.. Did someone came forward and claimed this win? Can you post on your site if a lucky winner claimed it or was another one that was not claimed as of November 9, 2021. Posting it will help players manage played tickets carefully in future. Will keep playing for Education in NC. Thank you.NC Lottery
Hi Lamin! We unfortunately did not have a player claim this win, but the silver lining is that 50% of the winnings will go to the education fund for our state, and the other 50% will go back to NC Lottery players in the form of prizes. Posting definitely helps raise awareness and we try our best to make sure all prizes are claimed by the players that win them!

NCEL, still waiting for pick 3 and pick 4 to go online. Going to the corner store everyday gets old.NC Lottery
We understand, Philip, and appreciate your feedback! The folks that make those decisions read these comments and we will let them know that this is a feature our players are interested in seeing!

Too bad people who will actually claim it don't win. Years ago I remember reading from this site the same sad news;a ticket worth 800 grand sold in Troutman, NC went unclaimed. It was power ball ticket. I hope the winner uses the remaining days to claim this prize.NC Lottery
Thanks for your comment, Philip! We most definitely want all winners, especially big winners, to claim their prizes when they win. However, the silver lining of unclaimed prizes is that 50% of the funds go to education in our state, and the other 50% go back to players in the form of prizes!

Here's another idea...I'll take it. Lol

Here's an idea. If not claimed, how about making it part of the double play or have a separate cash5 drawing. All kinds of ways to put it back to all the people that help build this pot.NC Lottery
Hi, William, thanks for your comment! That's actually close to what we do. Half of unclaimed prize money goes to education—the good cause that the lottery serves. The other half is available to be used as prize money in other games and lottery promotions. Hope this helps!
