Shovels dig into dirt in a field in rural Harnett County as students and school leaders recently marked the start of a new elementary school.
Two years from now, the doors of the new Northwest Harnett Elementary School are scheduled to open. The school will be the home for more than 900 students in this fast-growing part of the state.
“The new Northwest Harnett Elementary will be the foundation for future generations to become productive citizens,” said Kimberly Smith, a principal at LaFayette Elementary School, at the groundbreaking ceremony, “making their mark for Harnett and across the world.”
As the new school is built, you can celebrate too.
When you play the lottery, you help raise money for education. And our state is investing $10 million raised by the lottery into building the new $38 million school.

The money comes from a special program created to help build new schools in North Carolina. So far, the money is supporting 31 projects in 30 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. Six of those new schools will open this school year.
The need for new schools in our state is great. The lottery has been raising money to help build and repair schools since its start.
The Education Lottery, with your help and support, is proud to add to the investments that communities are making to build new places of learning all across our state.
