Columbus County man scratches off $250,000 top prize

Richard Bryant of Riegelwood multiplied his cash to $250,000 with one $5 scratch-off ticket.

Bryant stopped at the Scotchman on Old Stage Road in Riegelwood, grabbed a 20X The Cash ticket, and instantly scratched off the top prize.

He claimed his prize Tuesday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $176,876.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games such as 20X The Cash make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million a year for education.

A $15 million grant, using money raised by the lottery, is helping Columbus County build a new West Columbus School as well as new buildings at Whiteville High School. For details on other ways Columbus County benefits from lottery funds, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.

Just wondering the NEW SCRATCH ticket are suppose to be out FIRST TUESDAY, for Dec. when will they be out since FIRST TUESDAY isn't until DEC.7th? Will they go out early? ThanksNC Lottery

NCEL I want to say I do believe there are issues, because in Jan I purchased a pick 3 ticket for that night and it printed for the next night and I had the winning numbers exact! SCEL has just had a similar issue for tickets purchased from a certain time that all printed for a totally different day and offering refunds to players. NCEL just told me I should have checked my ticket before I left the store as if it was my problem. I play way to many numbers/tickets to check ever detail before I leave the store.

First, congrats to all winners! But, I'm back for a new issue with the app scanner. A friend and I were hanging out Tuesday. He purchased several different scratch off tickets. His eyes got crossed a bit when he was trying to match the winning numbers per row for Keno so he asked me to scan the bar code. Two tickets were no winners, but a third ticket was a $10 winner. We looked at the winning numbers, numbers per row and prize amounts, but could not find a combination that showed the ticket was a $10 winner. I scanned it at least fives times and got the same result. Of the other tickets he purchased and I scanned, he only won $2. He took the $10 winning Keno ticket to the store yesterday to cash it in, only to find out it in fact was not a winner. What is going on with the scanner? Makes me feel like it's not reliable and wonder how much I might money I may have thrown away...
