Durham man wins a ‘spectacular’ $100,000 prize week before Thanksgiving

Willie Davis Jr. of Durham tried his luck on a scratch-off ticket and won a $100,000 prize.

Davis bought his Spectacular Riches ticket for $25 at the Short Stop on West Main Street in Carrboro. He claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh, and after federal and state tax withholdings, took home $70,757.

Spectacular Riches launched in October with eight $1 million top prizes and 20 $100,000 prizes. Six $1 million top prizes and 17 $100,000 prizes remain to be won.

Ticket sales from scratch off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how $12.8 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Durham County in 2020, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.

Congrats. I seem to be on a small roll with house money. Put 1 of my $250 winners in my desk. Only spent $110 of the other one. Got 5 bigger spins & hit for 100,100,20 & 20.
