Guilford County man wins $25,000 A Year for Life with Online Play

Kerry Peay of Greensboro tried his luck on a Lucky for Life ticket and won a prize of $25,000 a year for the rest of his life.

Peay bought his lucky ticket using Online Play through the lottery’s website. His ticket matched all five white balls in Saturday’s drawing. The odds of matching all five numbers in a Lucky for Life drawing are one in 1.8 million.

The game’s second-tier prize, $25,000 a Year for Life, pays out every year for the rest of a winner’s life. The winner can choose to claim the prize as a lump sum of $390,000. Peay chose the lump sum. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $276,326.

Lucky for Life has 10 ways to win a prize and drawings are held every night. The top prize is $1,000 A Day for Life.

Lucky for Life is one of four lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets through Online Play either through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

When you play online how do you get paid if you win? Do they pay out 1.00 or more? NC Lottery
Hi Darlene. When you win, you will receive an email notifying you that you have won. You will also be prompted to start or complete your claim online when you sign into your account following an Online Play win. You will receive an email notice stating that your winnings under $600 will automatically be placed in your NC Education Lottery balance. You may use these funds to purchase more games, or withdraw the funds. If you win $600 up to $99,999, you will receive an email and a pop-up when you sign in instructing you to claim online. If you win $100,000 or more, you will be directed to start your claim online and wait to receive a follow-up notification with instructions. You will not be able to claim your prize until notification is received, normally within 2-5 business days, and you will only be able to claim at Lottery Headquarters in Raleigh.

I thought Lucky for life drawing were only on Monday and Thursday. So you are saying they draw for this every night. NC Lottery
Hi Alice. Yes. The game has changed and you now have a daily chance at lifetime prizes! Lucky for Life drawings now occur seven days a week. The prizes and odds to win, cost to play and how the game is played all remain the same.

I concur it has been two months since the LFL has been won here in NC. Congratulations to the two winners, RNG is a hard win for anyone,to win. Would be good to see the cash5 double play drawing on tv,makes you wonder if it's not done by RNG.NC Lottery
Hi Roger, thanks for commenting! The Cash 5 Double Play draw is conducted the same way as the other draw, but it is not televised due to broadcasting time limits. However, with all of our drawings, we have strict security protocols in place, including an independent auditor being present for each live drawing, to ensure the integrity of the draws. Can you play Pick 4 with a partial quick pick? Say for example I want 72 and quick pick the other 2 digits? Also I want to put in my monthly comment about please let us play Pick 3 and 4 online!NC Lottery

Yes - you are able to do a partial quick pick with any of our games by selecting the numbers you want and then selecting the "Quick Pick" option on the play slip at a retailer or by selecting manual entry on a vending machine, choosing your numbers, and then selecting Quick Pick to randomly select the rest. And we appreciate the feedback about Pick 3 and 4 for Online Play - we will pass that along to the folks that make those decisions as we are always looking for ways to improve player experiences!
