Raleigh woman scores $200,000 lottery prize

Jessica Gatling of Raleigh tried her luck on a $5 scratch-off ticket and won a $200,000 prize.

Gatling bought her lucky Sapphire 7s ticket from the Colony Exxon on Six Forks Road in Raleigh. She claimed her prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $141,501.

The Sapphire 7s game launched in December with six top prizes of $200,000. Four $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Is anyone else convinced that the majority of the top prize winning tickets are intentionally being sent to Wake county?NC Lottery
Hi Charles! We see lots of big winners all across our state. Winning tickets are printed per the odds for each game and printed randomly throughout the secure printing process. Then, they are randomly distributed across NC - even we don't know where the winners are until a lucky winner comes in to claim their prize. Areas with larger populations, like Wake and Mecklenburg Counties, may see more frequent winners because there are more players, but every ticket - regardless of where purchased - have the same odds of being a winner. Hope this helps to clarify!
