Wake County man wins $1 million Powerball prize

Robert Farah of Raleigh watched his $2 ticket win him a $1 million prize in Saturday’s Powerball drawing.

Farah bought his winning Quick Pick ticket at Bayleaf Convenience & Deli on Six Forks Road in Raleigh.

His lucky $2 ticket won the highest prize nationally in Saturday’s drawing and matched the numbers on all five white balls to beat odds of 1 in 11.6 million.

Farah claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and took home $707,501 after required federal and state tax withholdings.

No one won Saturday’s Powerball jackpot. The jackpot will climb to $42 million as an annuity or $31 million cash for Wednesday’s drawing.

The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million. Players can buy Powerball tickets through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App, or at any lottery retail location.

why is the take home $ much higher on a 1 mil. winning with powerball vs with a scratch off ticket? Forgot how that worksNC Lottery
Hi Tony, great question. This often has to do with whether the winner chose to take their prize as a lump sum or an annuity. For many scratch-off tickets, the prize listed is the annuity amount, while winners have an option to take a lesser amount as the lump sum. For Powerball, aside from jackpot wins, the prize listed is the lump sum and only federal and state taxes are deducted.

Congrats !!! Well instead of asking more question about the PB promo, I just did it. Purchased six $3 Power Play tickets for $18 to see if I would get a week free. I did not, just got a $4 discount. Bottom line you will only get a $4 discount whether you powerplay or not.
