Trip, trip, Hooray! Pick 3 players win $3.7 million with 1-1-1

The numbers 1-1-1 in Tuesday night’s Carolina Pick 3 drawing added up to a $3.7 million win for lottery players.

This is the second set of trips to hit in the Pick 3 game this month.

The drawing produced 9,495 winning tickets that matched all three numbers.

The winning numbers are known as “trips” among players of the Pick 3 game. Trips are some of the most popular combination of numbers played. The odds of matching all three numbers in exact order in a Pick 3 drawing are 1 in 1,000.

Winners have 180 days to claim their prizes.

Drawings in the Carolina Pick 3 game are held twice a day, at 3 p.m. and at 11:22 p.m. Players can either pick their own numbers or select a Quick Pick by allowing the lottery terminal to generate a set of four numbers for them.

Ticket sales from draw games like Pick 3 help to raise more than $725 million a year for education programs in North Carolina. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in North Carolina, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.

LZ, count me among the winners. It seems like when there's multiple frequent doubles that it's telegraphing a trip. Call it a hunch but I felt like a trip might be pulled again. I played 222 right before it was pulled but not when it was. This time I was leaning more towards 999, 000, and 555 but felt like I had better not leave out 111. Thankfully I didn't! But then I wondered if there would be back-to-back trips like a while back but barely missed the cutoff. Still wasn't going to go with 555 though.

One more question, I think I asked before but I didn't see your response.Will there be online purchase available for pick3&4? It will be much more convient for more players. One time I just missed the last mintue of sale time for Pick3 and my numbers actually get drawn...NC Lottery

Hi Jia, great question! We tend to see more winners when triples are called because they are popular numbers for players to choose when buying tickets. Every combination has a 1 in 1,000 chance of being called, regardless of the numbers. The odds of winning are the same no matter which three numbers you pick. Good luck!
