Mega Millions ticket sold in Wake County wins $1 million prize

Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing produced a $1 million prize for someone who bought a ticket through Online Play on the lottery’s website.

The lucky ticket was the only one to win the highest prize nationally in Tuesday’s drawing.

The $2 ticket matched the numbers on all five white balls, 10-15-19-45-68. The odds of matching all five white balls in a Mega Millions drawing are 1 in 12.6 million.

The winner has 180 days from the drawing to claim their prizes.

No one won Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot. The jackpot climbs to $240 million as an annuity or $162.6 million cash for Friday’s drawing. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million.

Players can buy Mega Millions tickets through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App, or at any lottery retail location.

The thing I find odd is, it seems like 90% of the winners are east of I77. I know that it is a larger area with more population and ticket sales, but it gets discouraging to see the winners location is nowhere close to you. That includes draw, scratch, and 2nd chance drawings. And yes I have cut back on my lottery spending for that reason. NC Lottery
Hi Tarence, I understand your frustration, everyone wants to win a big prize! You are absolutely correct that the reason for this is that the majority of the population is located east of I-77. However, winning tickets are distributed randomly throughout the state, and for draw games we have no influence over which numbers are chosen and cannot change the numbers to benefit players in one region over another. The odds of winning are the same no matter where you are located. Good luck!

Hi Laura, Wake County is located in the central part of North Carolina and it's county seat is Raleigh. Wake County is the most populous county in the Carolinas!

If the lottery sales are down, one of the reasons could be because people are just tired seeing numbers NC lottery numbers constantly fall.i have a list of numbers that I have been playing for for 20 years and none of these numbers ever come in NC. Talking with friends they all agree. If people have an ocassional hit sales would go up because they would feel they are not being taken advantage of by the lottery. These numbers that’s falling really is mind boggling and make a person pause for a minute NC Lottery

However, the numbers for draw games are truly random and are conducted under the supervision of an auditor. We cannot influence the numbers in order to yield more big winners or to help a particular player.
