Wake County man wins $4 million prize instantly

Jacob Andrews of Angier tried his luck on a $20 scratch-off and instantly found himself the lucky winner of a $4 million prize.

Andrews purchased his $150 Million Cash Explosion ticket from the Circle K on U.S. 421 South in Broadway. He claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

As a winner, he had the option of taking the $4 million as an annuity of $200,000 a year for 20 years or a lump sum of $2.4 million. He chose the $2.4 million lump sum and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $1,698,006.

The $150 Million Cash Explosion game launched in October 2018 with four top prizes of $4 million, six prizes of $1 million, and 10 $100,000 prizes. One $4 million prize, one $1 million prize, and two $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Congrats ?? but that's a lot of money taken out for taxes though. I mean I'd be happy with 1.6 million, but why so much in taxes. He couldn't even get half of 4 million, tgats ridiculous. NC Lottery
Hi Antonio, winners are given the choice between a $4 million payment paid out over 20 years, or a lump sum. The $1.6 million difference between the lump sum and the annuity would be earned on interest over the course of 20 years and used to pay out the $4 million prize to the winner. This player chose the lump sum, and so federal and state taxes were withheld from the total lump sum prize of $2.4 million.

Last $20 dollar ticket that had one million dollar prizes!!! It was before the current Lottery Commission decided make prizes on their tickets LESS!!! Hi Dorothy, it's not easier to win the lottery in a big place than a small one. There are just more people taking a chance to win there. We can assure you that if you move to Charlotte or Raleigh it does not become easier to win a lottery prize there. The lottery can only work if everyone has the same chance to win, and no matter where you live you have the same chance to beat the odds as someone anyplace else!

Actually, Angier is a small town in Harnett County with a pop of 5000. Broadway is an even smaller town in Lee County with a pop of 1300. So much for the comments about only big cities have winners.
