Iredell County man mines $100,000 prize

John Phifer Jr. of Statesville tried his luck on a $20 ticket and scored a $100,000 prize.

Phifer purchased his winning $4,000,000 Gold Rush ticket from the Sheetz on Wilkesboro Highway in Statesville.

He claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and took home $70,756 after required federal and state tax withholdings.

The $4,000,000 Gold Rush game launched in August 2020 with three top prizes of $4 million and six $100,000 prizes. The last top prize so the lottery has started steps to end the game.

NCEL Suggestion regarding the NC Cash Five Double Play. Please consider revising to 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x Extra instead of Double play. I believe this method will increase players to spend abundantly. Also, I would like to see more promotions on Keno. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

@NCEL can you all explain the amount of doubles for this month if you don't have any control of the pick 3 drawings. This month have had a unusual amount of double numbers. I look at history and this is no common pattern. Have someone figured out your draw pattern and you all throwing us a curve ball :)!NC Lottery
Hi Angela, we have certainly seen a lot of triples in the last couple months! However, this is just a coincidence. All the draw results are random, and the results in one drawing don't have any influence over what numbers will be drawn in the future. What looks like a "pattern" is really just randomness being random. The only thing we control is the integrity of the drawing, the winning numbers are the result of that random drawing. Thanks for the great question!
